SLEMAN - As a spatial country, Geographic Information System is indispensable for Indonesia to manage the potential of natural resources. Geographic Information System or Geographic Information System (GIS) is a specialized information system that has the ability to build, store, manage and display geographic information in a database. Thus, Dr. Achmad Istamar disclosed CEO of PT ESRI Indonesia at the signing ceremony of MOU between UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY), with PT ESRI Indonesia, Thursday (2/11/2017).
"Geographic Information System Technology can be used for scientific investigation, resource management, development planning, cartography and route planning," he said at UPNVY Petroleum Technology Seminar Room.
Achmad said SIG could help planners to quickly calculate emergency response times during natural disasters, or GIS could be used to find wetlands, global warming impacts, mining land and so on. In addition to science, GIS was also used by social science practitioners to view geopolitical maps, state borders, human trafficking, and other thematic.
UPNVY is the 20th college in cooperation with PT ESRI Indonesia. In addition to universities, PT Esri Indonesia has cooperated with the government namely Geospatial Information Agency, Navy, BNPB, and others.
Rector UPNVY, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sari Bahagiarti K, M.Sc welcomed the cooperation with PT ESRI Indonesia. Moreover, existing courses on UPNVY require SIG devices.
"I hope the GIS can be utilized by the study program to develop its scholarship. GIS can facilitate learning for students, "said Rector.
Rector further said, not only the utilization of GIS technology from PT ESRI, but also UPNVY students could gain knowledge and experience from training and apprenticeship from the company. (wwj / humas)
