REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, YOGYAKARTA - Head Of Data Center And Information (Kapusdatin) Ministry of Defense Marsma Yusuf Jauhari stated that the development of cyber world has created a new dimension not only in facilitating cross-border state communication but also creating a new battleground as well.
In his press release, Sunday (26/11), Yusuf said that the threat to a country has no longer been a threat of physical attack, but also a cyber threats that can attack strategic infrastructure and national vital objects.
"Past experiences such as cyber attacks in Estonia in 2007, stuxnet malware attacked targeting the SCADA system, to the widespread occurrence of Wannacry's ransomware that attacked several health facilities in the country became a valuable lesson for us to prepare for the threat of new-style warfare, " Yusuf said in a seminar entitled 'E-Defense: Maintaining Data Security in Facing Cyber ??Warfare to Strengthen the Sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia' at UPN Veteran Yogyakarta on Saturday (26/11).
Technically, continued Yusuf, cyber threat could also be an information attack using the channels of online media and social media available. For example, hoax news can be used to lead public opinion that can lead to political instability.
"It also causes economic losses, or even causes commotion when it is in conflict with socio-cultural conditions. In other cases, a data leak either intentionally or through social engineering can be used to attack a country in terms of defense and security," said alumni of AAU 1990.
Nevertheless, Yusuf continued, Indonesia should be proud because it has formally owned the TNI Cyber Unit as well as the State Cyber ??and Codes Agency (BSSN) which is responsible for cyber security within the national scope. It shows that the government gives a special attention to cyber preparedness.
"Cyber ??security is a complex thing and requires the involvement of multi stakeholders from government, industry, practitioners, academics, to the public," he said.
Therefore, according to Yusuf, maintaining security in cyber warfare is a positive thing, especially with the awareness of the need for the role of young people to contribute positively in terms of cyber security.
