SLEMAN - National Development University (UPN) "Veteran" Yogyakarta established the Cyber ??Student Regiment (Menwa) from various faculty representatives in the campus.
The establishment of the Cyber ??Menwa supported by the Ministry of Defense is expected to be a civilian force to realize the defense and security system in cyberspace. The formation declaration of Menwa Cyber ??was done simultaneously with the seminar on Saturday (25/11).
Rector of UPN Veteran Yogyakarta, Prof.Sari Bahagiarti explained, as the State Defense campus UPN felt the need to form Menwa Cyber ??in order to become a bastion of defense NKRI in cyberspace. Cyber ??Menwa is expected to be one of the civilian forces to defend the State as the embodiment of the defense and security system.
"This Cyber ??Menwa is formed to deter and guard NKRI from cyber-attacks, especially for the content that is not in accordance with the values, ideology and culture of the Indonesian nation," she explained it to Jogja Daily, Tuesday (28/11).
Professor of Geology added that the future Menwa Cyber ??embryo would continue to be developed. This Cyber ??Menwa can be a place to develop the student potency in the field of digital security.
In the future they will be equipped with the ability in the field of information technology in order to strengthen the security in the field of cyber with the spirit of awareness of defending the State.
"At least in particular (cyber defense) in the environment and campus life first," he said.
Sari explained that the students who were recruited as Menwa Cyber ??are students who have interest and ability in the field of information technology usage. In the early stages they were given a number of materials, among other IOS and android forensic workshops and security assessment workshops because the embryo is still limited in number and will continue to be developed.
"They are students who master information and communication technology," she said.
She added, the formation of Menwa Cyber ??was not free from many problems in cyberspace such as misuse of short messages, fraud, plagiarism, threats, account hijacking to the banking and trading sectors. In the defense sector, the threat can be the use of cyberspace for the activities of radicalism, terrorism to brainwashing cognition that can mengehan NKRI.
In order to anticipate that kind of war, then the information age is now known as the modern war so it takes collaboration from various agencies, not least the college.
The establishment of Menwa Cyber ??together with a seminar titled Keeping Security and Facing Cyber ??Warfare to strengthen NKRI sovereignty. Committee Chairman, Frans Richard Kodong, explained that the seminar was supported to encourage young people to contribute positively in terms of cyber security.
This cyber security is complex and requires the involvement of multi stakeholders from the government, industry, practitioners to academia and society. Community involvement in a universal war in the cyber world is absolute and inevitable.
"In the case of hackers, it sometimes misrepresents them as a negative activity when there is a white hat tremor ahacker or a good hacker. One thing to remember, patriot hackers will keep the nation's good name and will be ready to defend the country when needed," she said. (Sunartono-HARJO)
