SLEMAN - UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY) is actively involved in developing cooperation between Korea and Indonesia in the field of disaster management. Related to this, Korea invited UPN UPNVY and BNPB for a visit on 27 to 30 November 2017.
Representatives of delegates who came to Korea were UPNVY Rector, Prof. Dr. Sari Bahagiarti K., M.Sc and Head of Disaster Management Master Program UPNVY, Dr. Yohana Naradika Maharani, as a representative of BNPB.
Signing of MoU between UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta with Korean Society of Volcanic Hazard Mitigation (KSVHM) in April 2017, both parties agreed to develop cooperation. KSVHM is a Korean government agency engaged in disaster mitigation. Kwangwoon University and the Korean Institute of Civil Engineering and Technology (KICT) were also involved there.
In that occasion, the intensive discussion of cooperation implementation plan that will be implemented in 2018 was the collaboration research in disaster management, especially volcanoes. The research will involve institutions both from Korea and from Indonesia (including UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta). It is expected that Korean International Collaboration Agency (KOICA) will act as a funder.
"BNPB is also involved in this cooperation, in addition to expanding networks between Korean and Indonesian government agencies, BNPB has established cooperation with UPN," said UPNVY Rector to UPNVY PR on Monday (4/12/2017).
During the three-days visit, various activities were held, including conference for future collaborative research and workshop on volcanic eruption disaster management at KICT office, Goyang, Korea.
