SLEMAN - History of Indonesian name was invented by James Richardson Logan and George Samuel Windson Earl. At that time, Earl proposed the name of Indonesia in his writings entitled "Journal of The Indian Archipelago and Eastern Asia" volume IV in 1850. This was conveyed by Prof. Dr. Ir. C. Danisworo, MSc when giving a presentation at the Joint Seminar of State Defense at Seminar Room, Faculty of Mineral Technology, UPN Condong Catur Campus, Tuesday (27/02/2018).

Danis explained before having a name of Indonesia, Earl chose the name Malayunesia because it was very appropriate for the Malay race. However, Logan chose to use the name Indunesia because the name was more synonymous to Indian Island or Indian Archipelago. the letter 'U' is replaced with the letter 'O' so that it becomes Indonesia.

"Then Indonesian used the name of Indonesia and  Ir. Soekarno proclaimed it on August 17, 1945, " Danis told the seminar participants.

According to Danis, knowing the origin of  the name of Indonesia could awaken the love to the country. Then develop the love to preserve the wealth of Indonesia which ultimately be the State defensive characters.

In the same place, Prof. Ir. Irfan Dwidya Prijambada, M.Eng., Ph.D, UGM Director of Service to the Society presented the presentation of "Maintaining and Defending the Nation through Real Work Lecture (KKN)".

Irfan said that at the beginning of its founding in 1951 - 1962, UGM sent volunteer students through Student Mobilization to teach and establish high school outside Java.

The Land and Environment Biotech Expert explained that defending the country is not only done with the strength of weapons. In accordance with the era, the form of the actualization of love to the homeland or patriotism and nationalism is certainly much different from the era of the struggle of the nation's predecessors.

The state defend done by UGM was currently done through various tasks carried by the Institute of Community Service. That is relating the university to the community, spreading science and technology for the benefit of society, and shaping the students' sensitivity to the problems faced by the surrounding community.

"Since 2014 KKN UGM spread over 34 provinces. We send students to Kalimantan, Sumatra, and 3T areas, "explained Irfan.
