SLEMAN - Indonesia's karst potentcy is varied from the economic potential, science, and humanity. This high potency apparently also contains potential ecological risks.

The discussion on karst was held on Tuesday (27/02/2018) in the Meeting Room of the 2nd   floor of the Petroleum Engineering Building, entitled Petroleum Engineering Building, entitled " Pengelolaan Kawasan Karst Untuk Pembangunan Yang Berkelanjutan (The Management of Karst Areas for Sustainable Development)". Held by Karst Study Center of LLPM UPN and Master of Disaster Management, it was filled by Prof. Sari Bahagiarti K. M.Sc. (Rector o f UPN and UPN Karst Study Center), Dr. Eko Teguh Paripurno (Center for Disaster Management Study of UPN), Dr. Ir. Soeryo Adiwibowo M.S (IPB), and guided by Arif Riyanto BN. S.T., M.Sc. (Geomatics UPN).

Dr. Eko Teguh Paripurno from Master of Disaster Mitigation presented the Ecological disaster risk reduction in karst area. Talking about karst, it is usually closely related to water management. The water management also contains the elements of protection and preservation. "A lot of people talk about management but rarely talk about preservation. For example, when they thought about how to  distribute the water channels, they rarely thought about how to plant and save water for conservation, "said the man who is familiar called Mr. ET.

Around the strategic karst area, there are usually many factories or companies. It certainly increases the percentage of ecological damage. "For example, the distance from the cement plant to the karst and the residents' housing will decrease the percentage of earthworms. Soil fertility will decline and threaten the environment, "he explained.

The prevention efforts can be done to prevent the risk of nature, culture, human, economic, and physical / infrastructure. The risk include loss, damage, disruption, health, and others. It should be carefully calculated before building the buildings. "There will be a sooner or later risk. We usually never calculate the risk that we will receive. All the beauty needs to be managed so that the benefits are no less than the loss, "he added. (Lucia Yuriko)
