TRIBUNJOGJA.COM - To increase literacy in social media activities in the cyber era, a number of lecturers in Yogyakarta established Jogja Mendaras Data (JMD).
Social media observer UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Iswandi Syahputra who also joined in JMD said, JMD could help cleaning up the information in the new media era.
"Nowadays anyone can create and disseminate information about anything in social media, the information becomes abundant, moreover in the political year," said Iswandi through his written statement received by Tribunjogja.com on Thursday (15/3/2018).
According to him, entering the political years like this, the information can be a political commodity.
Clean and dirty or disguised information is mixed in social media.
"JMD can be a data-based information-cleaning tool. The virtual democracy cannot be built from dirty information," Iswandi continued.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Communication Department UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta, Subhan Afifi said, JMD wanted to dedicate themselves to develop studies and research in the field of social media related contemporary issues.
"Hopefully, people are getting smarter in social media, data-based talk, and avoiding fake news (hoaxes)," Subhan said.
Added by the Chairman of Communication Science Program UII Yogyakarta, Muzayin Nazaruddin revealed, JMD opened to collaborate and work with various parties who have the same vision and dedication.
"The vision and dedication are the same, that is a smart public in media, a healthy social media climate, and clean information," he said. (tribunjogja)
