TRIBUNJOGJA.COM, SLEMAN - Department of International Relations, FISIP UPN Veteran Yogyakarta held a National Seminar on the theme of 'Contemporary Issues of Democracy in ASEAN Countries', Wednesday (11/4/2018).
This seminar activity became the routine activity agenda of International Organization Laboratory. This seminar also presented speakers namely Leo Agustino PhD democracy expert from the University of Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa (UNTIRTA) Banten, Dr. Nur Rachmat Yuliantoro MA (IR) Chairman of the Department of Science HI Gadjah Mada University and Hikmatul Akbar MSi lecturer, HI UPN Veteran Yogyakarta.
The event was attended by academics, researchers, students and the public who were concerned about the issues of democracy in developing countries, including in countries in Southeast Asia.
The Chairman of the Laboratory of International Organizations, Ariesani Hermawanto said, this activity focused on the theme of democracy that became an important issue globally and regionally.
"In some ASEAN member countries, democracy runs quite dynamically which is marked by significant participation of the people in the political process, as well as the increasingly dominant society responds to important political issues," said Ariesani.
Therefore, he continued, the seminar aimed to provide a deeper insight into the main issues of democracy.
"Including the strengthening of the role of social media in the political process of democracy," he added. (*)
