SLEMAN - Informatics Engineering and Management Study Programs are two most desirable study programs of the prospective new students who passed the National Selection Entrance State University (SNMPTN) 2018. They will likely still be the most prospective study programs of SBMPTN held May 8, 2018.
The Director General of Learning and Student Affairs at the Ministry of Technology Research and Higher Education, Intan Ahmad said, the social conditions in the community who are getting used to the use of the Internet and the inclusion of a variety of technological innovations is enough to influence the interest of prospective new students in making choices.
"The high-competition (competition-driven) study program is good for Indonesia's future. The government will need many competent human resources in the field of ICT (information and communication technology) and health, "said Intan at Kemenristekdikti Office, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 17, 2018.
SNMPTN at UPNVY recorded from 13,957 participants as many as 1,051 enrolling in Informatic Engeenering Program as the first or second choice. This number proves that it becomes the favorite subject of the participants after Management, Communication, Mining Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering.
"The special feature of Informatics Engineering Department at UPN" Veteran "Yogyakarta which distinguishes it from Informatics Engineering Study Program in other universities is the Geo-informatics field," said the Coordinator of Information System Study Program, Department of Informatics Engineering, Awang Hendrianto Pratomo, S.T., M.T, in the Working Room, on the Ground Floor of Pattimura Building, Campus of Tambakbayan, Thursday (19/4).
According to Awang, his familiar greeting name, Geo-informatics at UPNVY studied the development of an application that refers to the development of Geographic Information System (GIS), a computer-based data management system to manage, analyze, model, present spatial data (spatial) and A-spatial (text) that refers to the geographic location as well as the development of applications that support the earth.
Geo-informatic expertise, Awang continued, also studied the field of internet of Thing (IOT) which can apply the informatics in the field of earth including Mining, Petroleum, Environment, Disaster, Industry, and Agriculture.
IOT, he said, is the application of informatics science to be collaborated with various disciplines, which can be used to integrate hardware with software for a machine, can be controlled automatically.
"Internet of things in the field of Geo-informatics has a role to the control equipment in mining and petroleum", said the lecturer who was born in Kulon Progo 25 July 1977.
In addition, the alumnus Doctor of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia said IOT has a role as a medium for collecting data to monitor and supervise the environment. "The geo-informatics-based informatics science has a role to develop an early warning system of disaster and environment, so that people's life become safe and secure", he explained.
Related to the curriculum, Department of Informatics UPNVY designed a curriculum to support geo-informatics. Geo informatics was established by the Veterans of the Freedom Fighters of Indonesia, the Department of Engineering Informatics provide compulsory subjects of mandatory geo-informatics.
The graduates of this department are expected to develop ICT creatively and innovatively, to able to collaborate with the industrial world, and to able to manage ICT projects professionally. (BMW-fti)
