KULONPROGO, KRJOGJA.com - After research done by the geologist of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) Veteran Yogyakarta, the community opened a tunnel of lorry lines in the former mine area of ??Kliripan in Anjir, Hargorejo Village, Kokap Subdistrict.

The representative of Working Group (Pokja) of Hargorejo Village, Sri Widodo said that the opening was done in a mutual way by the community. The ground that closes the tunnel has been removed. In addition to getting rid of the soil that closed the tunnel, the community did the job of installing a sewer in front of the tunnel entrance.

"Pokja wants the former Kliripan mine area can be a historical and educational destination. Later the tunnel can be visited for tourism, "said Sri Widodo.

As being known, the Geologists of UPN Veteran Yogyakarta and Pokja Desa Hargorejo traced the lorry tracks in the former Kliripan mine area in Hargorejo Village, Kokap and Karangsari Village, District of Pengasih. In search of many cave-shaped tunnels, it has been used as a lorry track to transport manganese mines during Dutch role.

In Anjir region, Hargorejo village, it was found a tunnel about 100 meters deep and a tunnel on Mount Penthul along 80 meters. The altitude of the tunnel is about three meters by 2.5 meters wide.

Both tunnels are a lane to transport manganese from the mining site to Pakualaman Railway Station. The lorry rail has gone. There has been already built houses and highway above the tunnel.

"Places like this is interesting for historical, educational and public tourist destinations. The people around just have to keep organizing and managing it up into interesting sights, " said Dr. Ir Singgih Saptono MT, the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Cooperation UPN  Veteran Yogyakarta.

According to him, knowing the type of rock in the tunnel, it is safe to be a tourist attraction. Nevertheless, UPN will conduct a tunnel mapping of topography in the ex-mine area of ??Kliripan mine. (Ras)
