Sleman – Friday 28 September 2018, the earthquake and tsunami hit Palu and Donggala, Central Sulawesi.

Quoted from jatim.tribunnews.com, the earthquake with the magnitude of 7.7 Richter scale shake Palu and Donggala. The earthquake also caused tsunami wave of 0.5 to 1.5 m at Palu, less than 50 cm at Donggala, and 6 m at Mamuju.  

That sad news invited a lot of sympathies from all over Indonesia, and one of them was from the campus of state defense that responsive to the natural disaster, UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta.

The Rector of UPN “Veteran”Yogyakarta, Prof. Dr Sari Bahagiarti K, M.Sc, on behalf of all the university leaders and the university academic community, expressed deep condolences to all victims of the earthquake and tsunami disasters occurred in Palu and Donggala, Central Sulawesi, andalso for allvictims of earthquake that hit Lombok, Western Nusa Tenggara, on 29 July 2018.

Madame Rectorwished the event could trigger our awareness, concern, and alertness to the environment that vulnerable to the geological hazard. And hopefully the families of the victims are given the strength and fortitude in facing this natural disaster. She also hope people in Palu, Donggala, and Lombok be revive soon to rebuild their areas on the basis of enduring to the disaster. (Rector/Sari Bahagiarti K)
