UPNVY ATTENDS THE WORLD WATER DAY 2017 :: dipost pada 29 Maret 2017

Dr. Ir. Singgih Saptono, M.T., the Deputy Rector Commissioning Students’ Affairs and Cooperation attended the Water Day 2017 commemoration, held by the Municipal Government of the City of Yogyakarta, on March 30th, 2017.

The Municipal Government of Yogyakarta disseminated thousands of young fishes into Lake Langensari (Embung Langensari) in commemorating the World Water Day 2017. LakeLangensari is a rain water reservoir located in the area of Klitren, near Malioboro tourism center and Yogyakarta’s Sultanate Palace (Kraton), the location of Lake Langensari is actually located in the center of the city, next to BalaiYasa train workshop. Lake (Embung) Langensari was built as a downtown reservoir and also as an open garden.

The Municipal Government of Yogyakarta, as the capital city of the special Province of Yogyakarta, specifies a size of 32.50 square kilometers, divided into 14 districts and 45 sub-districts. The Municipal Government also manages a domestic waste water facility, regulated by Regional Regulation No. 6 of 2009 and Regional Regulation No. 5 of 2012 on Retributions for General Services. This facility is managed by the Housing Facilities of the areas in Yogyakarta, in the Residential Affairs and Waste Water. The Municipal Government of Yogyakarta provided some facilities; the waste water primary tunnel, which was built during the Dutch colonial era, Mobile Toilet services, septic tank emptying services and IPAL KOMUNAL.

The purpose of the management of domestic waste water is to create a clean and healthy Yogyakarta, via the treatment/processing of domestic waste water, to protect and improve the quality of ground water and surface water in order to meet the needs for clean water and preserve the ecosystem, to increase the concern form the Government, businesses and public awareness to participate in ecological preservation.
