TRIBUNJOGJA.COM, YOGYA - Slightly different from last year, the percentage of new student admissions through the National University Admission (SNMPTN) in UPN Veteran Yogyakarta this year has decreased from the previous 30 percent to only 20 percent.

Head of the Head of the Subdivision of Cooperation and Public Relations UPN Veteran Yogyakarta, Marcus Kusnardijanto said that the percentage reduction for new students was purely a central policy.

The reason was allegedly because there were several prospective students who did not re-register or canceled their entry through the SNMPTN pathway last year.

"Our quota for the SNMPTN track was 30 percent of the quota (2800) last year. This year it declined to 20 percent but the total quota for new students rose to 3180. This change was purely a central policy. We only apply it in the process of admitting new students this year, "Marcus said at Tribunjogja.com on Wednesday (02/06/2019).

There wereseveral reasons for the cancellation of new students who were supposed to get through the SNMPTN last year.

One of them is because the prospective student was accepted in another service department.

Or, the student chose to get to the State Higher Education Admission Joint Selection (SBMPTN).

"Yet, there are new regulations this year for whom have passed the  SNMPTN automatically can no longer register for the SBMPTN. Releasing the status of students accepted from SNMPTN also harms high school classmates. So, you should think carefully before registering for SNMPTN because you have to take it if you pass it, "Marcus said.

The cancellation of new students who were supposed to enter through the SNMPTN last year was known for several reasons.

Or, choose to enter through the State Higher Education Entrance Joint Selection (SBMPTN) path.

Meanwhile, if the reduction in the percentage of SNMPTN lanes is determined from the head office, this year's quota will increase because of the campus policy.

Marcus said, the increase in capacity usually occurs along with the improvement in the quality of lectures and accreditation from several departments and faculties.

Meanwhile, the field that has become an idol is still the Department of Mining and Petroleum.

In addition, there is Communication Studies which is also almost never loss the students’  interest .

These three fields, according to Marcus, also have qualified accreditation, which is making it be thefavourite of the students who will enter university level. (*)
