SLEMAN - The Internal Community Service Team (PbM), Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta will introduce oil and gas energy and geothermal energy through literacy early on. The literacy activity will be on July 19, 2019 in Wedi District, Klaten Regency. This activity is based on a lack of knowledge of the elementary school teachers and children in the Wedi sub-district, Klaten about the oil and gas energy and geothermal energy. A study was conducted on oil and gas literacy in SD Karang, Wedi Subdistrict, Klaten Regency in 2016 and as a result they were very enthusiastic in participating in the program series.

This literacy activity is initiated by lecturers of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta. This oil and gas and geothermal energy literacy program is chaired by M.Th. Kristiati EA, ST., MT and two members named Indah Widyaningsih, ST., MT and Yudhy Widya Kusumo, S.Sos., M.A. Two lecturers come from the Department of Engineering, Faculty of Mineral Technology and one lecturer from the Department of Communication Sciences, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. In addition to the chairman and members, this activity also involves 2 students and an education staff.

It is planned that this literacy activity will involve 10 elementary schools in the Wedi District, where each elementary school sends 3 teachers and 6 students (3 men and 3 women). The beginning of this activity has been carried out an initial survey followed by a preparation of activities, namely taking care of several permits and cooperation. This literacy activity is in collaboration with the Regional Technical Implementation Unit of Education (UPTD Pendidikan) in Wedi Sub-district to help the coordination with all elementary schools in Wedi Sub-district. This series of literacy activities is planned in two stages. The first stage is the presentation of material to the teachers and elementary students about oil and gas energy and geothermal energy. This presentation is done with a very interesting motion graphics video playback. In this literacy video, there is a character named Migi who explains about the energy of oil and gas and geothermal energy. Migi's figure is depicted in a figure of a child who wears a typical mining wearpack or field suit in green that is identical to UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta. With the attributes of safety helmet, Migi increasingly represents oil and gas and geothermal energy literacy activities. The second stage is giving motivation to read and write to the teachers and students as well as providing learning material about oil and gas energy and geothermal in the form of books and learning videos. In this second stage, the students and teachers will be asked to describe the explanation of the first phase of the presentation through a picture and a description. After that, it is planned that the picture that has been madewill be complied in a book as a result of the literacy message achievement.

After the material presentation and motivational training, there will be monitoring and evaluation activities that will be carried out by the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta. At the end of this literacy activity, there is also a final report that will be submitted to the LPPM UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta. (WK / fisip)
