SLEMAN - The increasing influence of China in the world was discussed in a seminar organized by the International Organization Laboratory, Department of International Relations, FISIP UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY). The National Seminar had a theme of 'Expansion of China's Political Economy : Expansion of Influence and Human Rights Issues, Tuesday (9/24/2019).

This seminar presented several speakers namely Sugiarto Pramono, MA PhD (Cand), an expert of  Chinese politics from Wahid Hasyim University Semarang (Unwahas), Dr. Ririn Tri Nurhayati, MA, an expert of International Relations at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and Melaty Anggraini, a lecturer at UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta.

The Chancellor of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta Dr. Mohamad Irhas Effendi, MS opened this event and there was a remark from the Head of the International Organization, Desy Nur Aini, MA

The seminar was attended by academics, researchers, students and the public who were concerned about political issues in East Asia and human rights issues. Also, there were 25 students from the University of Sultan Zainal Abidin, Terengganu, Malaysia who were visiting the HI FISIP Department of UPN "Veterans' Yogyakarta.

The head of the seminar committee, Ariesani Hermawanto, said that this activity focused on the theme of China's economic and political expansion which was also related to the issue of human rights.

"In this new millennium, the economic and political expansion carried out by China has been very impressive and massive. Yet, on the other part, China still have to face human rights issues that can have a detrimental impact on China internationally”, said Ariesani. She also said, the seminar aimed to provide a deeper insight into the expansion of China's political economy and its impacts, including the response of other countries in the world.

"It includes the responses from large countries like the United States and developing countries like Indonesia," he added.
