Universitas Pembangunan Nasional 'Veteran' Yogyakarta (UPNVY) plans to install a landslide detection and early warning system in 2 locations. This tool will be installed in 2 places, namely Watuduwur village, Bruno District, and Telogoguwo Village, Kaligesing District, Purworejo Regency.
"This is UPNVY’s effort to mitigate the landslides that often occur in Kaligesing. UPNVY has a concern to mitigate it, so that there will be no victims when a disaster occurs", said Hendro Widjanarko, the Secretary of LPPM UPN ‘Veterans' Yogyakarta, when interviewed on Monday (7/10/2019).
He said that this tool is more human friendly when it is viewed from the side of care, use, and education to the people who will use it. This tool is able to map unusual land shifts, so that it will give a signal to residents.
It took 3 months to assemble a device called the SDPD (Early Detection and Warning System) of the Landslide Hazard. Not alone, UPNVY has partnered with SMK N 2 Banjarnegara to manufacture the equipments.
Sari said, one of the advantages of the tool released by the UPNVY team was that it could detect the ground movement that was going to slide. When the tool detects the movement of the ground, the tool will give a warning to the residents.
"There will be a siren sound. Thus, before the landslide occurs, the residents can be prepared to take necessary actions", said Sari Bahagiarti Kusumayudha, lecturer in Geological Engineering, UPNVY Mineral Technology Faculty.
This tool released by the UPNVY team is first installed in Purworejo Regency. It is planned that UPNVY will re-install the device in Banjarnegara Regency in 2020.
Not just installing SDPD Landslide Hazard devices, but UPNVY also will try to monitor the equipment and educate the community around the installation site.
"Hopefully this tool is able to reduce the risk of landslides around the site. The local people get additional insight, knowledge, and responsibility to manage the tool", he concluded. (asa / adn / adv)
