Not many innovations have been developed and are well published in Indonesia. No wonder if these problems make the innovation ranking in Indonesia ranked low. One form of responses to the problem is UPN Veteran Yogyakarta held a National Seminar on Call for Paper & Monitoring and Evaluation of Research and Service of the Ministry of Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. The seminar which was held on Wednesday (16/10) at the GQ Hotel, it has been the fifth one.

"The seminar is the Directorate of Higher Education agenda. It is aldo the latest M&E for the researchers and servants who received grants, who received funding from the Ministry of Research and Technology. It is the third and internal M&E from UPN",  said the Chairman of LPPM UPNVY, Heru Sigit Purwanto on Wednesday (16/10).

The aim of this seminar is to direct the downstream industry. He said that a research generally only stopped in the lab. Therefore, this seminar explained a research to the industrial application stage.

"We are spurring the research lecturers in the direction of industry," said the head of the seminar.

He also added that the process of encouraging lecturers had moved around 400 lecturers to participate in researches and be active. The next goal will be to make a new direction, namely to develop researches that can be applied on an industrial scale.

"This seminar collects 181 papers. It is a lot and there are practitioners as well and universities, not only UPN itself. It has 39 from the Directorate of Higher Education and 140 from the internal parties", he said.

On this occasion, Muhammad Irhas Effendi also explained the problem in Indonesia related to researches conducted by the academics and practitioners. Regarding tothe research work program itself, UPN Veteran Yogyakarta initially referred to Law 18 of 2002 concerning the system of science and technology development. The reference used this time is the Law 2011-2019 on the national innovation system. Therefore, UPN Veterans Yogyakarta itself is ready to face the innovation.

"In that context, we are prepared to face the challenge which prevent the process of innovation in Indonesia", concluded Irhas.

Obstructed innovation in Indonesia is apparently related to the data that shows the global index is in position of 50. The innovations from 12 competitive pillars are in the lowest position. The sector is ranked on the 38th. Irhas said that the 12 pillars of competitive innovation were in the lowest position.

"Of the 12 pillars of the global competence index, innovation is at the lowest", he said.

Indonesia's position itself has an advantage outside the market size. Its consequence is that innovation is at a low level.  It gives an effect that many innovations are not made by Indonesians, but by the foreign people.

"Indonesia excels in the market size, consequently there will be many innovations from abroad coming to take advantages of our market," said UPN Veteran Chancellor.

The theme of this national seminar is something that needs to be discussed since it highlights the efforts to raise innovation in Indonesia based on researches.

One of the efforts made by UPN Veteran Yogyakarta is doing researches. It does not stop at the researches themselves, but it disseminates or publishes the findings. Afterwards, the campus has cooperations with related parties in the industry.

In line with what was expressed by Irhas in his remarks, Muhammad Dimyati also conveyed the policy direction of strengthening research and innovation development.

This seminar did not only discuss the research findings, but it also gave the patent submissions for three UPNVY lecturers who won the patent 2019 for their researches. (adv)
