EGER, Hungary - Two UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta students (UPNVY), has taken part in a student exchange program to Hungary since September 2019. They are Hanan Annisa Restu Utami and Charlina Dhevi Hidayati, students of the Agrotechnology Department, Faculty of Agriculture.
The student exchange program is collaboration between the UPNVY Faculty of Agriculture and the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences, Eszterhazy Karoly University, Hungary. The program lasts for one semester, from September 2019 to January 2020, and is sponsored by an Erasmus + scholarship from the European Union.
During their activities, they study inside and outside the classroom, as well as have activities with other international students, such as Global Cooking Night. Global Cooking Night itself is one of the flagship programs of the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) where the international students from every country cook and serve the traditional food of their home country.
There are 14 countries that participated in this event, including Indonesia. There are about 200 students and lecturers who participated in the event as participants and the committee who voted for the best food.
The Indonesian team itself presented three kinds of cuisine, namely Seblak, Martabak Manis, and Gudeg. In addition, the mentors and students who are members of the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) also often hold activities to familiarize students, both internationally and locally. These activities included hiking to Nagy-Eged, Karaoke Night and Halloween Events. The university also held an Intercultural Training class so that the international students were more familiar with Hungarian culture and introduced each other's cultures. The lectures in the classroom are more inclined to the system of discussion between students and lecturers. They hold lectures outside classroom so that students can learn directly from the real sources, such as visiting the Thermal Bath in course of Water as Risk and Resource, and visiting several historic sites in Budapest and Eger in courses of Hungarian Culture and Intercultural Awareness.
In addition to participating in events held by the university, UPNVY representatives also participated in activities organized by the Indonesian Student Association (PPI) in Hungary. The activity included discussions with the Indonesian Ambassador to Hungary, an introduction to the lives of Indonesian students in Hungary, and a committee for the election of the Hungarian PPI chairman.
