SLEMAN, KRJOGJA.com - UPN Veteran Yogyakarta Alumni Association held a grand reunion as well as a seminar on Advanced Agriculture on UPN Veteran's integrated campus, Saturday (12/14/2019) presenting several alumni who work in various fields of work including Hendro Harijogi Poedjono, the Dichancellor of Corporate Affairs and Agro Blue Waves Group Singapore, Eddy Martono, the Chairman of the Agrarian and Spatial Planning of Joint Palm Oil Entrepreneurs and Adhi Brahmantyo, the Operations and IT Dichancellor of PT Bank Bukopin.
The seminar took place quite interesting including when Hendro Harijogi told how the UPN Veteran Agriculture alumni tried to carry out the state defense in the field according to work. Hendro said that some time ago Indonesian palm oil products were refused entry into Pakistan due to a statement from the local Minister of Health.
"At that time I came because they said that our product cause cancer and the Minister of Health of Pakistan conveyed it. I came there and met the Minister of Agriculture, the minister of science and a number of experts there who finally said that our palm oil was not banned there. It was my voluntary personal intention without being asked, I was just thinking about its impact to the country”, he said in front of the seminar participants.
Hendro also reminded the students and young people of UPN Veteran to maintain the characteristics of defending the country when they get tio the community. "Not only is it in the economic sector, but also it is in anti-corruption and anti-narcotics. The war now is cyber, economy, social culture. We must be ready. Our role must be shown if we are UPN Veterans graduates”, he said.
Hendro, who now lives in Singapore, also tells how the neighboring country has a higher per capita defense than Israel which is currently still in war status. Singapore was given the title of one of the safest regions in the world today.
"In Singapore, there is one force, and it takes Indonesian defense as the model. Singapore is the most peaceful country in Southeast Asia but it has a higher per capita defense than Israel. The people participate in the national defense. If people become permanent residences, their children will be obliged to participate in defending the country. How do other countries defend themselves for their nation? This is what we must have for Indonesia", he said.
Meanwhile, the Chancellor of UPN Veterans Yogyakarta, Dr. M Irhas Effendi, said his campus has currently been the best defending state campus in the last two years. This has consequences for UPN to build role models related to the implementation of the PSDN Law.
"We are asked to make a role model of training for the TNI, how actually universities are directed to defend the country. We have the responsibility to build a role model of the implementation of the PSDN Law, especially for universities", said Irhas. (Fxh)
