SLEMAN - Qoidul Masa'id was a marbut of Nurul Hidayah Mosque in Puluhdadi Hamlet, Condongcatur, Sleman for 4 years. Being a marbut, said Masa'id, had routine duties and responsibilities which were maintaining the neatness and cleanliness of the mosque, announcing the call to 5 times prayer, becoming an imam, preacher reserve and preparing everything for mosque activities. He shared his time for those activities and his busy college activities.

"In Mining Engineering, there are many practicum and many tasks. Once the villagers got angry to me due to negligence in the mosque because of the campus matters", he said.

Fortunately, he could overcome all the misunderstandings and continued to carry out the obligations as a marbut.

Masa'id said, he did not feel deprived during his stay in the mosque because the villagers always paid attention to him.

"I got the allowance for scholarships and wages in being a marbut which is less than 1 million per month. I had to arrange enough. Yet, every time I didn’t have enough money, there were some people or acquaintances helping me".

He said when he had run out of money and had not eaten, suddenly there were residents who sent food. This was always happened, even when he ran out of money for the practical fees or buying college tools, there was always someone who helped. According to him, it was because of the blessings obtained from the sincerity of caring for houses of worship.

His ability to read the Qur'an was also a blessing for him. With his ability, sometimes he was invited to be a qori of an event and got an honorarium.

"I usually was invited to read the Qur'an in weddings. It’s quiet good for the pocket money”, said the first child of two siblings. (wwj / PR)
