Sleman - Metallurgical Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Mineral Technology, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional ‘Veteran’ Yogyakarta (UPNVY) applied for accreditation for its new study program. The BAN PT Assessor Team consists of Prof. Dr. Ing. Ir.I Made Londen Batan M.Eng (Sepuluh November Institute of Technology) and Dr. Ing. Ir. Wahyu Haryadi Piarah, MSME (Hasanudin University) did the assement conducted on 29 and 30 July 2020.
Dr. Irhas Effendi as the Chancellor of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta explained the history of the founding of Metallurgical Engineering. "The Metallurgical Engineering undergraduate program is very important to be established as a result of discussions with seniors in the mining sector responding the Mining Law where we can only export mining products not in raw form. Thus, one solution is to do processing. This processing sector then guarantee to absorb many alumni. Therefore, this study program was established, and we hope that this study program can be a mainstay and can continue to grow," said the chancellor of UPNVY
Dr. Sutarto, MT as the Dean of Mineral Technology Faculty, UPNVY said that the Metallurgical Engineering Study Program was under the Faculty of Mineral Technology. This faculty is known to be in charge of 8 study programs, one of them is Metallurgy Engineering Study Program.
The Dean of the Mineral Technology Faculty of UPNVY added that the opening of the Metallurgical Engineering Study Program was in 2017 in response to Law No. 4 of 2009 concerning Mineral and Coal Mining. This law requires all mining materials to be processed and refined first in the country to increase their added value before being exported abroad.
"Accreditation is not about good or superior, but it is more to how we prepare ourselves to continue to be proficient, to work together for the Faculty of Mineral Technology, for an independent Indonesia," he said.
Ir. Anton Sudiyanto, MT as the Head of the Department of Metallurgical Engineering hopes that this study program gets good and satisfying grades.
"Although it is done online and is constrained by difficult communications and signals, we are doing our best and hope that the Metallurgical Engineering Study Program will get good grades." Anton Sudiyanto said when being met directly on the second day of field assessment activities
On the same occasion, Made Londeng Batan, one of the BAN PT Assessor Team said that “maybe you have to wait for another 1 year because the Corona pandemic is still running. So, we put the term aside," said Made in an online meeting.
Although he could not present directly at UPNVY, he said that he could feel the atmosphere of Yogyakarta only from these online meetings. This assessment was carried out to ensure the documents submitted by UPNVY were complete and appropriate.
