Continuing on the third day of Introduction to State Defence Campus Life (PKK-BN) 2020, the new students (maba) of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY) were handed over to their respective study programs (prodi), namely, to introduce the characteristics and also campus life in the study program and it was done online. The UPNVY new students 2020 were warmly welcomed by the heads of their respective departments or study programs.
One of them, the Head of the Department of Informatics, FTI UPNVY, Dr Awang Hendrianto Pratomo, S.T., M.T., welcomed his students with great joy. "You are the chosen student from thousands of prospective students who register in this department. Welcome and keep enthusiastic to develop your skills, especially in the field of informatics," he said to the new Informatics Engineering students via zoom, Wednesday (23/9).
He said that Informatics Engineering is one of the departments with the most enthusiasts. Also, it became the first ranked major in the Faculty of Industrial Engineering and fourth in UPNVY.
It is said that he will add new study programs for the development of Informatics Engineering Department in the future. "Currently, we have 32 lecturers, almost all of them have certification of expertise from the National Standards for Professional Certification. Also, some have certification at the international level," he continued.
Awang hopes that the lecturers and students can interact each other, nurture each other to grow their identity and develop their potential. In addition, the new students can use this valuable opportunity to work optimally, both in terms of increasing the potential of the academy or soft skills.
"Hopefully, the new students can immediately adjust to the department. So that they can work by utilizing the existing facilities in Informatics Engineering," he said.
Apart from the academic development, he advised the students to also engage in non-academic matters, like joining student organizations (ormawa) to create maturity and independence. "You must be able to divide your time. Because within the next four years, you will have the opportunity to gain experiences, friends, new insights that are important for the future," said Awang.
Then, online PKK-BN is also carried out by the Industrial Engineering Study Program. The department received 152 new students. "I hope that all new students in Industrial Engineering will be able to study smoothly at UPNVY in the future," said the Head of UPNVY FTI Industrial Engineering Department, Dr. Sadi, S.T., M.T.
He mentioned that there are several visions and missions that must be understood by UPNVY Industrial Engineering students. Its vision is to be a pioneering development study program in the field of integrated industrial systems engineering based on the spirit of state defence in the global era.
The mission of the Industrial Engineering Study Program is to provide qualified higher education based on the spirit of defending the country in order to educate the nation's life, to produce Industrial Engineering graduates who are globally competitive, have dignity, have a spirit of discipline, struggle, and creativity. "Then, increasing human resources through increasing the quality and quantity of research and community service in the field of Industrial Engineering," said Sadi.
Even though it is currently in the midst of a pandemic, the students still have the enthusiasm to learn and continue to develop. "Hopefully Covid-19 will stabilize quickly so that we can meet face to face on campus," he hoped.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Metallurgical Engineering Department, FTM UPNVY, Ir Anton Sudiyanto, M.T., hopes that the Metallurgical Engineering Study Program students can uphold their love for the Republic of Indonesia more. "It is because you are on the UPNVY campus which has a high sense of state defence," said Anton.
It was stated, although the Metallurgical Engineering Study Program is a new study program, it had been accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education. "For that, the students must be enthusiastic in studying in this study program," he said.
Furthermore, the Head of the Department of International Relations (HI) FISIP UPNVY, Erna Kurniawati SIP M.Si., also congratulated the 164 new students who joined the HI (International Relationship) study program. "The pandemic situation brings a lot of adjustments, especially in the field of education. I want to meet with others but the situation is not yet possible. I hope the pandemic will pass soon so that we can meet and have the lectures face to face," he hoped.
He said that all must cooperate with each other, namely by obeying and implementing health protocols orderly. "Thus, we can immediately conduct conventional lectures. If we are still wayward, we cannot guarantee that we will immediately do that. It depends on our discipline," he said.
In the zoom, Erna also conveyed the vision and mission of the HI Science Study Program. The vision is to be a major in HI science in the fields of diplomacy and defence-security based on the Spirit of State Defence and Multiculturalism in the global era. "Diplomacy and defence-security are what characterize us," continued Erna.
Then, the missions are to develop learning activities with an emphasis on the fields of Diplomacy-Negotiation and Defence-Security, develop science and solve HI problems through laboratory-based studies, develop community service and policy proposals through laboratory studies, develop collaborative networks to improve the quality of graduates. Also, it develops the quality of information technology-based administrative services.
Separately, the coordinator of the Soil Science Study Program of FP UPNVY, Dr Eko Amiadji SP MP, welcomed 114 students with enthusiasm. "Congratulations to the new students of Soil Science. Today is the third day that you participate in PKK-BN online. Hopefully having this PKK-BN, you can get to know the Soil Science Study Program more and be more in love with this study program. Hopefully, we can have face-to-face learning soon," Eko hoped.
The Soil Science Study Program has a goal to produce graduates who master science and technology in the field of soil science. Then, it produces graduates who are able to develop Soil Science for sustainable development and apply soil science in the practice, as well as respond to problems that exist in society.
"The target is to have human resources of soil science that are capable of carrying out an inventory of land and water resources, reclamation of mining areas, and a geographic information system (GIS)," he said.
As the most popular study program at PMB SM 2020, the Head of the Management Department of FEB UPNVY, Dr.. R Heru Kristanto HC SE M.Si., emphasized that the Covid-19 Pandemic should not be a barrier for the new students to actively join student organizations on campus, because this can train student managerial skills. He hopes that PKK-BN can guide new students in choosing the appropriate forum for them to be active in organizations, as well as implementing the management knowledge gained during college.
"The Management Student Association (Humman), the Management Student Community (Komma), the Management Olympiad and Competition Team (MOCT), and UPNVY Corporation Student Study Group (KSM) are the right places to hone student managerial skills in organization. Non-academic activities like them can also hone soft skills, interests and talents such as sports, arts, social affairs, and entrepreneurship," he said.
