Sleman_Lailiyatun Ni'ma, a student of 2017 class of Environmental Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Mineral Technology, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta won 1st place of National Chemistry Essay Competition held by the Chemistry Student Association of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Andalas University. The activity, which was carried out online on Monday, November 2, 2020, took the theme of "Chemistry Revolution on Industrial and Development". The Chemistry Competition (LK) XXIV is an annual event held by the Chemistry Student Association of Andalas University which consists of 3 fields, namely Webinars, National Essay Contest, and Individual Chemistry Contest. The sub-themes offered have a fairly broad scope, including renewable energy, waste treatment, food technology, natural resource chemistry, and advance materials.
Lailiyatun Ni'ma as the winner explained about the title of the competition she participated in which is "Strategies to Create an Energy Independent Market through the Waste to Energy Concept to Support Indonesia's Target in SDGs 2025". The selection of this title is based on the urgency of Indonesia which must immediately switch to the use of renewable energy. Given the dwindling supply of fossil energy, in addition to its use, it has a bad impact on the environment which can lead to a climate crisis.
"This essay discusses energy independence in the market, through the concept of waste to energy. For example, organic waste in the market which is usually only disposed of in the final processing sites (TPA) can be converted into electricity to supply energy needs for the community in the market,” Liya added when being interviewed online.
She added that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a new development agreement that encourages changes to shift towards sustainable development based on human rights and equality to promote social, economic and environmental development.
"My motivation to participate in this competition is because I always like to take part in this kind of essay competition, but I have not been given the chance to win. Alhamdulillah, I finally felt the victory. So, for all of you, especially those who are still new students, make good use of the available time. Keep trying until the ration fails while there is still a long way to go. The opportunity to work and have achievements was very big when I was still a student." add Laily. PR
