I. ACCOUNTING STUDY PROGRAM IN BRIEF

The Study Program in Accounting is one of the study programs in the Faculty of Economics. This Study Program is expected to produce Accounting Graduates who will engage in the profession as successful accountants, each with a specific competency. The specific competencies comprise six areas, namely financial accounting, management accounting, public sector accounting, auditing, accounting information systems, and taxation, all of which are founded on ethics in facing contemporary challenges from the ever changing conditions of world economy.

The Study Program also provides support activities for students that help to achieve the aforesaid competencies through the establishment of an accounting laboratory and a Tax Center. The accounting laboratory consists of two kinds, i.e. Accounting Computer Laboratory and Auditing Laboratory. The Tax Center in cooperation with the Directorate of Taxation is intended not only to equip students with knowledge of accounting but also for practice and tax management.

On August 24, 2013 in accordance with a letter from the National Accreditation Broad (BAN-PT) No. 174/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-XVI/S/VIII/2013, the undergraduate Study Program in Accounting of UPNVY was accreditted with Grade B. The accreditation certificate was declared to be valid for five years, effective from August 24,2013 to August 24, 2018.

 

II. VISION, MISSION, AIMS

Vision

To become a leading, modern, and independent Study Program in developing the Tripartite doctrine of Higher Education (Tridharma Pendidikan Tinggi) in efforts to produce accounting graduates who are innovative and productive, imbued with the Pancasila (State Ideology) morality, a fighting spirit, and a nationalistic orientation within the framework of national development.


Mission

To set up a tertiary institution in the field of accounting, which is of high quality and thereby producing graduates as pioneers of development, who are professional, skilful, disciplined, independent, strong in character and always ready to contribute their skills and energies to community concerns for the sake of the welfare of the naton and state of Indonesia.

Aims

  1. To produce graduates imbued with the spirit of Pancasila (State Ideology) and the highest integrity.
  2. To produce graduates with knowledge of accounting, its development and application in functional areas: financial accounting, management accounting, public sector accounting, auditing, accounting information systems and taxation as well as relevant supplementary knowledge.
  3. To produce graduates with the abilities to identify, observe, and address problems in terms of the principles of accounting, thereby enabling them to resolve varians problems in society by scientific reasoning.
  4.  To produce economics graduates in accounting who prosess the capability to pursue further education or advanced study in order to achieve a higher degree of expertise.
  5. To develop collaboration and partnership in order to carry out and practice the concept of link and match between education and industry.

 

III. CURRICULUM AND LEARNING PROCESS

The curriculum being developed is a competence-based curriculum (in the areas of financial accounting, management accounting, public sector accounting, auditing, accounting information systems, and taxation). These competencies carry 147 credit hours, comprising compulsory courses, interest-based compulsory courses, interest-based electives, and free electives. The normal study period is 8 semesters or 4 years.

In semester VI, students are offered a Study Excursion (as a value added learning expexience) which aims to give them a good picture and knowledge of the real world (practice) and the theories they acquire in lecture classes. In this way , it is hoped that students will possess a broader horizon and readiness to enter the job market.

V. EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES

  • Laboratory and Research on Accounting Development

Provision of knowledge outside accounting such as computer application in work practice and a course in entrepreneurship are intended to help students possess broader perspectives. Besides, the synergistic effect of the facilities is expected to foster the spirit of independence and entrepreneurship thereby enabling them to play a major and active role in society.

The existence op P3 (Research & Center for the Development of Accounting) in the Accounting Study Pprogram is greatly beneficial for students and lecturers.

P3 is intended for the teaching staff and students who wish to carry out research on the development of accounting, whereas training in accounting is intended for students who wish to develop their profesional skills and abilities. P3 is equipped with a mini-library that provides reference books and scientific journals dealing with the results of up-to-date research. This will motivate lecturers to conduct research and be involved in community service.

P3 is also equipped with an integrated computer network for all lecturers in the Accounting Study Program, which will hopefully bridge the students’ needs to gain plus points, develop, and apply their knowledge in the field of accounting.

P3 conducts internal training for students but it also provides training for inviduals from government agencies, the business world, and various organizations. It is hoped that the program run by P3 will enhance the expertise of the economics graduates of UPNVY in particular and also the Indonesian human resoures with competitive advantage and abilities.

  • Library

The mini-library in the Study Program is complementary to the library of the Faculty of Economics. As a source of knowledge, it provides scientific references of over 3000 copies consisting of literature in English and Indonesian, magazines, journals, and books on various subjects. Students, lecturers, employees and other interested individuals are welcome to make use of the facility.

  • Lecture Rooms & Seminar Rooms

For the purpose of facilitating the teaching-learning proces, the lecture and seminar rooms are fitted with appropriate equipment such as overhead projectors, central processing units, sound systems, air conditioning, and LCD projectors.

  • Information Technology

There is a cable and wireless computer network (wi-fi) on the premises and in Seminar Roomsenabling students to gain access to data and other various up-to-date information from the internet through the available hot spots, which greatly support the learning procces in efforts to create a condicive academic atmosphere.

  • e-Learning

this is an online facility that is accessible any time and from anywhere. The facility is a tangible manifestation of innovation in the learning process that is being continually developed by the Accounting Study Program of the Faculty of Economics. VI. STUDENTS’ ACTIVITIES

HIMASI(Accounting Study Program Students’ Association) is a forum for improving leadership abilities and organizational skills and a place for storing students’ aspirations. The activities are oriented to academic pursuit and creativity, including seminars, scientific writing contests, colloquira, cooperation with students of the Faculty of Law from another university performing rural community service to help village youngsters to be law-abiding residents and knowledgable of accounting or bookkeeping. In addition, there are other things such as sporting activities, social action, student-kecturer dialogues, journalistic association, and study groups.

 

VII. COLLABORATION AND SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship

Financial assistance is given to students who show great academic academic promise and who are dedicated to their alma mater. Among the institutions that have granted scholarships to students are the University (UPNVY), the Supersemar Foundation, KPP-KPs Pertamina (state-owned oil company), PT Djarum (cigarette company Ltd), Adji Dharma Madju Kerja Foundation, Dharma Wanita of the Ministry of Defence, Dharmawangsa Foundation, Coordination of Private Tertiary Institutions Region V of DIY, PT Askes (Health Insurance Ltd), BPD (Regional Development Bank) of DIY, PT Freeport Indonesia, and Alumni Association.

Collaboration

In Efforts to enhance the graduates’ competencies, the Institution has established a network of colaboration with various government and private agencies. Collaboration in the areas of education, research, and community service involve, among others, PT Adhya Tirta Batam (Water Corporation), the Batam Authority, PT Pertamina, PT Djarum, PT Askes, BPD (bank) of DIY, PT Freeport Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University (Yogyakarta), Airlangga University, University of Indonesia, Brawijaya University, Padjajaran University, Soedirman University, Diponegoro University, and other univercities in the country and overseas.
