Metrotvnews.com, Yogyakarta: Yogyakarta residents prepared absorb wells to plant and harvest rain water. The well was made in Bangirejo Village residents, Village Karangwaru, District Tegalrejo, Yogyakarta.
Head of Kelurahan Community Empowerment Agency (LPMK) Karangwaru, K Herman Setiawan said that the initial plan to build the well came about the anxiety of residents who felt the condition of groundwater in Yogyakarta decreased every year as a result of the rapid development of hotels and apartments in Yogyakarta that use groundwater raw materials.
This was reinforced by Geologist of National Development University (UPN) Veteran Yogyakarta, Eko Teguh Paripurno who once stated that the condition of the ground water level in Yogyakarta city decreased by 15-50 centimeters per year.
"We harvest the water almost every day, so the water that goes into the soil is not much because the drainage in Yogyakarta City is much thrown out, like to Bantul," Herman told Metrotvnews.com at his home in Kampung Bangirejo on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.
He explained that the idea of ??making rainwater absorption wells took about two months. After conducting meetings once, Herman and the rest of residents made preparation of the technical concept of making wells. Herman called it Segura Amarto's Well Water Reservoir (SPAH). The making SPAH was in collaboration with the Department of Public Works, Housing, and Settlement Area (DPUPKP) Yogyakarta.
Broadly speaking, he explained that the wells were made near the street residents with a hole diameter of 80 x 40 centimeters and a depth of 2.5 meters. The well hole was then drilled to a depth of 6 meters. The estimated cost of making SPAH spend was Rp4 million.
Technically, the wellbore will be watered from the drainage channel of rainwater drainage. When the well is fully loaded, the water then enters the soil through a well made with a depth of six meters.
"We give a six-dimension pipe for the drilled well, it means big enough, mud or sand will be filtered and the water goes into the soil, the water will sink into the wells of the residents," said RW 11 Chairman Kampung Bangirejo.
As a first step, residents created four well units. Three wells came from citizens' self-help, and one well was assisted by the Mayor of Yogyakarta, Haryadi Suyuti.
Currently, the mayor's help well has been created. "The self-supporting wells are still waiting for the builders, we will make them well this time," he said.
Herman said residents estimated the need for SPAH of 108 units. SPAH would be built gradually as many as in 13 RTs in three RW in Kampung Bangirejo. Each SPAH would be made with a minimum distance of five meters.
He asserted the SPAH was an anticipation step for not letting the people lack of ground water. Although, the current dry season residents will not experience water shortages in their respective wells.
"It is still relatively safe, the initial thought of SPAH is only for the future, it does not to catch up other areas (lack of water)," he said.
