Merdeka.com, Central Java - Professor of Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and former Minister of Defense RI President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), Prof. Purnomo Yusgiantoro said that defending the country was not a militaristic system or just a military property alone.

This was expressed during a key speech at a national seminar on defense of Military Academy (Akmil) cooperation with Semarang State University (Unnes) at Lily Rochli Building Tidar Valley Complex in Magelang, Wednesday (20/9).

He also mentioned that state defending was a necessity for all citizens considering the state defending was actually a medium to foster the  citizens’ sense of love to the homeland, to the nation, and their own country.

"State defense is the actualization of Pancasila, the 1945 Act and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)," he said.

According to him, although the state defend program has not been invited or become a law, but the program is now starting to run. Nevertheless, he really hopes that all layers of profession have the spirit to carry out the state defending.

It was explained that Indonesia has currently had three campuses that open the State Defense Study Program. Namely UPN Veteran Jakarta, UPN Veteran Jogyakarta and UPN Veteran Surabaya.

Purnomo clearly wishes that in the future the state's defense can be included in the curriculum of all campuses or universities, by becoming a semester credit system (SKS).

"The emergence of acts of terrorism and radical movements in Indonesia has been so big which was based on research it was caused by the lack of understanding of defending the country itself in the community," he concluded.
