GUNUNG KIDUL - Giricahyo Village Residents, Purwosari Subdistrict, Gunung Kidul could finally be relieved after receiving clean water from UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY), Tuesday (3/10/2017).

The difficulty of obtaining clean water supply due to drought during the dry season could be a little overcome. Margiyono, Chairman of Karang Taruna Giricahyo village admitted that he was happy getting the help.

"We are very grateful for this assistance. We really need the water in the dry season like this, "he said.

He said the residents had to take water from a rather distant source during the dry season. Sometimes people had to buy water from a tanker truck.                                                                                               

"The source here is about 2 km distance. If we buy 1 tank for 125,000 rupiahs, it’s just enough for 9 days," he said.

If the rainy season, residents will accommodate the water into the container tanks. In this village not all residents have wells. Water supplies rely only on the springs that are far from the village.

Through community service program UPNVY distributed 30 tank trucks to two districts in Gunung Kidul. A total of 20 tank trucks were distributed to Purwosari Sub-district and Kecamatan Tepus.

Rector UPNVY, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sari Bahagiarti K, M.Sc said the clean water supply program was a routine agenda of UPNVY every year.

"Every year we always do it. Not only in the area of ??Gunung Kidul but also other areas of drought," she said on the sidelines of water delivery. (wwj/ humas)
