YOGYA, KRJOGJA.com - Surrounded by volcanic belt, Indonesia has the potential of geothermal energy source which is very big, reaching 29 gigawatt. Geothermal energy can be renewable and sustainable, so it will not run out.
Chairman of the Department of Petroleum Engineering UPN Veteran Yogyakarta, Dr. Ir Herianto said, geothermal energy could be utilized as a power plant. However, the utilization is still very low in Indonesia.
Most (88%) of electricity in Indonesia is still supplied from fossil fuel power plants, 42% of coal, 23% of fuel and 21% of natural gas.
"The prospect of geothermal energy in Indonesia is still very bright and wide open," explained Herianto in the national seminar of 'Unlocking Indonesia's Geothermal Energy Potential as The Clean and Renewable Resourse Investment' at Seminar Building Faculty of Mineral Technology UPN Veteran Yogyakarta on Saturday (07 / 2017).
According to Herianto, it required mastery of technology and competent human resources to optimize the utilization of geothermal energy. He also continues to prepare his students to master the science and technology needed to manage this energy.
The seminar presented three speakers : VP Drilling PT Pertamina Agus A Zuhro, Geothermal Director of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Yunus Saefulhak, and Senior Manager of Business Relations Supremeenergy, Ismoyo Argo.
Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Panasbumi (API) Student Section UPN Veteran, Zaky Erdhianto said the seminar was a series of Geothermal Intellectual Competition (Gfest) 2017.
