JAKARTA - The government and the House of Representatives (DPR RI) are discussing the draft Law on National Science and Technology System (Sinas Iptek). Sinas Iptek is one of the bills that goes to Prolegnas priority 2018.

The discussion of the National Science and Technology Bill is a revision of the previous law for technology research to deal with the global developments.

Discussing the matter, Wednesday (24/01/2018), the Rector of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY) attended the invitation of the Special Committee of the House of Representatives Commission VII in a Hearing Meeting to discuss the draft of Sinas Iptek Bill in Jakarta.

"This law will also be expected to improve the old law in which the coordination between R & D institutions lies," said Sari.

At a meeting chaired by the Chairman of the Special Committee, Ir. Daryatmo concluded that  the draft bill still needs to be completed and perfected. The government should involve the elements of universities in the drafting of the bill, so that the role of universities in the implementation of science and technology can be more leverage.

"Universities can serve as a provider of human resources, science and technology resources, as well as actors of science and technology," said Daryatmo.

Moreover, the special attention is needed on who is most authorized to coordinate, foster, monitor, and oversee the implementation of science and technology. Remembering that these activities can be done by anyone,  from universities, research and development agencies from other ministries, companies, non-governmental organizations, and even individuals.

In addition to UPNVY, the meeting was also attended by representatives of universities namely Rector of UI, ITS, ITB and UGM.
