SLEMAN - Drought once every year seems to be an integral part of Gunungkidul Regency. When the dry season comes, people rely on rain-fed water or buy clean water tanks.
The government continues to have various efforts to find new springs. One of them is the development of Water Treatment System (SPAM) which is integrated with the Solar Pumping System (SPTS) in Girisuko Village, Panggang Subdistrict, Gunung Kidul.
SPAM development is the result of Industrial Technology Development research from LPPM UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY) together with Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) funded by the Ministry of Ristekdikti.
SPAM development is the result of Industrial Technology Development research from LPPM UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY) together with Badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi (BPPT) funded by the Ministry of Ristekdikti.
"This research is one manifestation of our concern for the drought that hits Gunung Kidul. UPN conducts water purification research and BPPT examines the distribution with solar power, "said the Head of LPPM UPNVY, Heru Sigit at UPNVY Condong Catur Campus, Tuesday (30/01/2018).
The research has been done about a year to produce ready-to-drink water supply technology for the community. Water purification is done by sprinkling distillation system, that is water sorting process. The evaporated water will be condensed and used as a ready-to-drink water, while the un-vaporized will be flowed with alum which is then collected into a flux bath.
The water is then separated by a zeolite filter, then flowed into a reservoir and ready to be distributed.
"The water from the shelter is ready to be distributed with the Solar Pumping System of BPPT research. Water flows to the Temuireng area as far as 740 meters with an elevation of about 40-50 meters, "said Heru.
The plan of the collaboration research of UPNVY and BPPT will be inaugurated by the Minister of Research and Technology, Mohamad Nasir on Thursday (01/02/2018) simultaneously with a working visit to Baron Teknopark and Vocational School UGM. (wwj / humas)
