SLEMAN - Research Center for Mineral Geotechnology UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY) held an education and training for improving the Health and Safety (K3) of Oil and Gas for operator and supervisory level in mining and petroleum sector on Thursday (22/02/2018) at Museum of Mineral Geotechnology, UPN Camparsari Campus.

The Chairman of the Institute for Research and Community Service UPNVY, Dr. Heru Sigit explained the importance of the competence of Health and Safety (K3) of Oil and Gas in the world of work.

"K3 experts mean not only have to run hard skills, but also the ability of soft skills", he said when opening the event.

According to him, there were limited human resources competency of K3 experts and it would be a barrier in the company's work whereas the K3 HR Competence played an important role in the success of OSH Program in the company.

Lecturer of Faculty of Mineral Technology said that is not just enough for having skill and knowledge from academic program or K3 expert certification to improve the competence of Occupational Safety Expert. The competence can be improved through the attitudes in work, such as, communication skills, international language skills, high common sense attitudes, market control skills, and so on.

In the same place, the Head of Mineral Research Center UPNVY, Dr. Nur Suhascaryo said the training was to prepare UPNVY graduates and professionals in mining and oil and gas industry who are competent to compete.

"Every year we organize this training, and this is the fifth event. K3 competency is very important for fresh graduates and professionals, "he said.

The training held for 4 days from 22 - 25 February 2018 was attended by 24 participants and will be held again in March. (wwj / humas)
