This study program focused on Corporate Communication Studies (Kajian Komunikasi Korporat) is expected to create a new academic nuance in Indonesia.
Corporate Communication Studies has been selected after considering so many aspects. One of these aspects is that it is the trend in Asia, in particular, and in the world, in general, life now requires scientists or experts in communication management with the scope of corporate entity. The Coordinator of Establishment of Communication Science Magister Study Program, Dr. Basuki Agus Suparno, says that communication sciences are not only pure knowledge but they have become applied sciences. “That’s why communication sciences have been considered to be cross-discipline fields of study. We also observe that there are very few similar studies now dedicated to such fields as Magister in communication sciences has in so far been dedicated to the media, communication management or General Studies of Communication Sciences”, he explains.
The Dean of Communication Faculty, Dr. Subhan Afifi, states that the establishment of the Magister of Communication Sciences Program is one of the achievements of the 7 Creative Communication programs held for 2014-2018 period. “Thanks to God, the grant of the license for this study program is accompanied by successful achievements in other programs. Hopefully, this will lead to the establishment of Fakultas Ilmu Komunikasi Kreatif (Faculty of Creative Communication Sciences), as provided in the Strategic Plans of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta,” he further describes.
In line with Subhan’s statement, the Dean of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, Dr. Machya Astuti Dewi that the achievement is an integral part of the actual realization of the Strategic Plans of the Faculty of Social and Political Studies for the period of 2015-2019. ”After having been in existence for 24 years, FISIP now has an S-2 study program, at last. We are very grateful for this achievement because it is compatible to the institutional target, which has been prepared for a long time”, explains Machya, who daily teaches the study of International Relationship.
With the establishment of the Magister study program, broader opportunities for cooperation with various institutions, both domestic and foreign, are also wide open. The cooperation focuses in different aspects having been pioneered by the Faculty of Communication, in particular with Asian campuses, may now be improved and deepened. Machya hopes that all the academic and non-academic processes can run smoothly and that, with its typical characteristics, the study program, will become the people’s choice.
