Sleman-UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta (UPNVY) was holding a seminar on state defense education for the facilitator and the trainer of state defense in UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta. The seminar presented two prominent resource persons, which were Lieutenant General DoniMonardo, the General Secretary of National Defense Council and Prof. ArisJunaidi, Ph.D, the Director of Quality Assurance, The Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education. The seminar was conducted on Thursday (22/11/2018) in the Seminar Room,Faculty of Mineral Technology.

The Rector of UPNVY, Dr. MohamadIrhas Effendi, M.S, on the opening ceremony expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the presence of the General Secretary of National Defense Council and the Director of Quality Assurance, The Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education at the Campus of State Defense of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, in order to deliverlecture in state defense to the facilitator and trainer at UPNVY.

The General Secretary of National Defense Council, Lieutenant General DoniMonardo explained that by definition the state defense is the awareness of every citizen to protect the country from threat, obstruction, obstacle, and challenge, based on our nation noble values for the shake of the prosperity of society.  

General DoniMonardo added that state defense program couldn’t be only a jargon. Among the implementations of state defense are greeting, smiling, affection to each other, and reducing plastic usage. 

‘The future heroes are those who are creating job opportunities. The future goals of becoming civil servant should be changed. UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta as an education institution must encourage its students, which are our nation young generation, to posses the spirit of entrepreneur. Indonesia is rich with enormous natural resources, in land as well as at the sea, which must be managed and utilized well for the prosperity of society. The raw materials must be processed into finished products and exported as high valued goods’. He added. 

To conclude his speech, the General Secretary of National Defense Council said that ‘the prosper society is the strong defense’.

The Director of Quality Assurance, The Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, Prof. ArisJunaidi, Ph.D, as the second speaker explained that the state defense doesn’t mean militarism, but how to be beneficial for our nation and country. Among the implementations of state defense for students are being tolerant, responsive to the environment, being responsible like in the story of Citarum River, create scientific work, innovation, and everything that is useful toour society, nation and country.
