Sleman - UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY) won a state defense award by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemhan RI). The state defense award was received directly by the Chancellor of UPNVY along with a coordination meeting and evaluation of the implementation of the defense of the country. The event was held by the Indonesian Ministry of Defense, Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at 09.00 WIB, on the 9th floor of Gedung A. H Nasution, Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat No 13-14 Central Jakarta.

The Chancellor of UPNVY, Dr. Irhas Effeandi, M.S, said that UPNVY has consistently carried out the planting of values ??to defend the country. The cultivation of defending the state in the UPNVY has gone through stages based on the organizing rod map, namely from activities of awareness, understanding, internalization, so it has created the changes in attitudes and behavior.

The Chancellor added that every academic of UPNVY must have the same awareness that the noble values ??of the nation must be maintained. Every UPNVY person must have the spirit of patriotism, discipline, struggle and the spirit of defending the state. The awarenss of the values ??of our country's defense  is instilled in the students, lecturers and employees’ souls. The student awareness of the defense of the country has been instilled since the first time he set foot in college through the Introduction of Life to the Martial Arts Campus. Furthermore, the planting of values ??continues to be carried out in lecture activities, starting from lecture activities beginning with prayer, uniform use, tolerance, national defense courses, etc. After the awareness stage, the UPNVY community will have the same understanding of these values. We do this arrest through various routine activities including workshops, public lectures, and other activities. It is not enough to just understand, but the academic community of UPNVY is required to always implement these values ??so that the spirit and character of the state are embedded in every heart. Our various implementation support activities are done through songs, struggle words, supporting activities such as JONB. With the awareness, the understanding and internalization of state defense can be seen by having the changes in attitudes and behavior of the academic community in carrying out their lives on campus and in their environment.

"Universities must be active in holding state defense plantations. The growth of this state's defensive attitude is intended to produce nation cadres who love their homeland. The cultivation of state defense must begin with awareness activities for the entire academic community and do it with the heart so that you can continue to run the principle of defending the country ", added the Chancellor.
