BANTUL, KRJOGJA.com - UKM Batik in Bantul is still constrained by the availability of raw materials for natural dyes. So, it needs to be encouraged by the effort to produce indigo batik natural dye paste (one of the natural dyes of batik) to supply the needs of indigo batik natural dyes for the handmade batik UKM.

Seeing these problems, UPN Yogyakarta Veterans Lecturer conducted a community service program in the form of assistance to encourage the independence of the supply of raw materials for natural dyes in three partner villages namely Triharjo, Wukirsari and Trimulyo Bantul. This 2019 activity is the last year assisting program in the Science and Technology program for the Partner Village (IbDM) from the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education.

"The target for the third year of the IbDM program is to optimize the handmade batik center village in Bantul by encouraging the prospect of a natural batik dye paste business", explained the Head of Science and Technology Service for Partner Villages from the UPN Veteran Yogyakarta Management Study Program, Dr. Titik Kusmantini MSi to KRJOGJA.com, Monday. (5/8/2019). The activity received support from the Bappeda Bantul, Batik Center and related agencies in Bantul.

According to Titik, this assistance program is in the context of downstreaming the results of the research entitled 'Value Chain Study of the Potential of Natural Color Handmade Batik in Bantul Regency'. In addition, a research of Dr. Mahreni from the Chemical Engineering Study Program was entitled 'Downstream Indigofera Leaf Extraction Technology Innovation into Indigo Paste' and research of  Ir Darban Haryanto from the Agricultural Study Program entitled 'Indigofera Cultivation Technique as a Source of Raw Materials for Natural Batik Dyes'.
