SLEMAN - Mohammad Abdul Khafid, a student of Environmental Engineering Department, Mineral Technology Faculty , UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY) again recorded his name in an international journal indexed Scopus. He presented a paper entitled "Evaluation of Land Cover Change and Number of Vehicles Increasing on Land Surface Temperature: Case Studies of Surabaya City, East Java Province, Indonesia" at the Brawijaya International Conference on Multidisciplinary Sciences and Technology 2020 (BICMST 2020), at the University Brawijaya, Malang, on 2-3 January 2020.
At this conference, Khafid had the opportunity to present his work in front of the delegations from various countries and successfully passed for publication in the International Journal of IJITEE (Indexed Scopus).
Before making a presentation, this student of the academic year 2016 passed the abstract, fullpaper and fullpaper review stages. This research was conducted to analyze the urban heat island in big cities.
The study was conducted in Surabaya to determine the impact of land changes, air quality and the dynamics of motor vehicles on surface temperatures in the city.
"The results showed that the density of vegetation (full vegetation) in Surabaya decreased from 2014 - 2015 by 2989.8 ha, which was followed by an increase in the number of vehicles from 2013 - 2018 amounting to 929,225 units with the lowest air quality parameters CO, SO2, NO2, located in the area of ??JL. Ahmad Yani, Kunganatan Gayungan with a magnitude of 22,376 μg / Nm 8., 8.92 22,376 μg / Nm ³ and 781.6 μg / Nm³”, he said.
The air quality with the highest concentrations of O3, SO2 and PM10 was in the region (Medokan Asri, Rungkut) with values ??of 40.7 μg / Nm ³, 14.9 μg / Nm ³, and 110.03 μg / Nm³. The surface temperature increased from 2014 to 2019 by 3.95 Celsius, with a temperature range of 25-27 degrees Celsius in the districts of Mulyorejo, Sukolilo, Rungkut, and Gunung Anyar and the highest temperature was in areas with tall buildings, densely populated and high mobility.
BICMST 2020, which was held in the framework of the 57th anniversary of Brawijaya University, was a forum for multidisciplinary science circles to develop the sustainable development goals and unite academics, researchers, communities to share researches.
Besides Indonesia, the countries participating in the conference were Australia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand and Brunei Darussalam.
