SLEMAN - Defending the Country does not have to take part in taking up weapons or fighting. War is a victory in physical battle and diplomacy. The victory in diplomacy is important because it determines the victory in the war, but physical battles still cannot be abandoned.
This was conveyed by Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak, a Special Satf for Communication and Inter-Institutional Relations of the Ministry of Defense in the Public Lecture in the framework of the Master Lecture and Doctoral Program in UPN "Veterans" Yogyakarta (UPNVY), Tuesday (27/01).
"Another thing is the Hybrid Threat that is a military threat and non-military threats that come at once, for example biological warfare, and economic, political, cultural, media, proxy war, and cyber warfare. Like the industrial revolution, the war has entered the fourth generation”, said the former Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Youth for the Period of 2014 - 2018.
Dahnil conveyed that the release of the islands of Sipadan and Ligitan, and East Timor was a clear example of the non-military warfare we faced. In certain contexts, imports can also be considered as non-military threats.
"State Defense is the determination, attitude, and behavior, as well as the actions of citizens in maintaining the country's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and state safety from various threats, for the survival of the Indonesian people. Actualization of State Defending Values ??includes the love to the motherland, national awareness and having a state, being loyal to Pancasila, and willing to sacrifice. The initial ability of the Defending the Nation demands psychological and physical readiness", Dahnil explained.
Defending the State, said Dahnil, must be adapted to the three main issues of the world today. The issue of climate change or the threat of disaster is important. The involvement of millennials as environmental activists who always speak out about nature conservation is included in the Defending the Country.
"Defending the State is not only about the military, but the spirit of discipline and cohesiveness that must be emulated”, he said in front of the public lecture participants.
The second issue, continued Dahnil, is Artificial Intelligent. This situation is vulnerable to conflict. It can be imagined if all factories have applied Artificial Intelligent. It is a serious threat, but it also a good potency. To counter this Artificial Intelligent threat, the millennial generation cannot but have to improve conventional literacy skills and hone the soft skills such as communication skills, leadership, and team work. Don't be lulled by literacy via smartphones and social media. At present, the public discussion is considered to have a poor quality; the dialectical space is damaged by "knowledgeable" monologues and the origin of "persistence". If it is not immediately anticipated, the millennial generation can experience a historical break and it is difficult to apply the spirit of Defending the Country. They must depart from strong literacy traditions to develop the traditions of Martial Arts that are progressing among millennials,
"The third issue is Digital Dictatorship. Countries that control data sources are the winners. The younger generation must master data in order to compete in this digital age", Dahnil explained.
Dahnil asserted that the defense diplomacy must be strong. The Indonesian defense doctrine is Sishanta which demands the involvement of all Indonesian children. This doctrine is Active Defensive, or free active. Don't have Offensive Doctrine because it does not have a defense pact. It is vulnerable being attacked by another country, but it has the potency to be a peacemaker or mediator.
Dahnil said, the National Resources for the National Defense are the Main Component, the Reserve Component, the Supporting Component, and the Defense of the State. The Reserve Component (Komcad) becomes important as long as it is constitutional. Indonesia is too late in preparing it compared to other countries. Unlike the compulsory military service, the commission is not compulsory. The participation is voluntary and must go through rigorous selection.
"In addition to receiving military training, the participants are equipped with material on nationalism and patriotism. The formation of the comcad is a step forward in the implementation of the Universal People's Defense System (Sishanta), as the government's efforts to modernize TNI's (Indonesian forces) defense equipment", Dahnil explained.
On the same occasion, the Chancellor of UPNVY, Mohamad Irhas Effendi, explained that the National Defense needs a new color in providing awareness and understanding to the current generation in the millennial era.
The Chancellor explained that his party has already had a road map on National Defense, especially for the master and doctoral programs which have more emphasis on aspects of thinking.
"The hope is that it can give birth to renewal of thoughts so that it can build new civilizations based on the spirit of Defending the Country and Love to the Motherland", he said when giving a speech.
According to Irhas, in this millennial era, digital, disruption, and the industrial revolution requires an open mind. In this era of information disclosure, the role of identity is very important as a filter. One of them is that the values ??of the Defending the State must be strong. If not, it is certainly very dangerous for the survival of the Indonesian people.
Irhas asserted that the prospective reformers, thinkers, and intellectuals in the digital era and the industrial revolution 4.0 born by UPNVY must have a strong national spirit, have the spirit of Defending the Country, and love to their homeland. It is because historically UPNVY Campus was founded by fighters under the Veterans Department at that time. The fighters want to keep fighting in the era of independence, one of which is through education.
"The implementation of State Defending is in the Constitution1945, Laws and Presidential Decrees. The UPNVY curriculum must have State Defending materials. Even the nuances and spirit of Defending the State must be presented in every course so that the Faculty of Mineral Technology, for example, can produce technocrats and Mining Experts who have enthusiasm in Defending the Country and Love to the Motherland", said Irhas.
