The Pencak Silat (martial arts) National Championship between Universities is taking place in UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta Auditorium on February 10-16, 2020. In this championship, various Pencak Silat colleges compete for the Presidential Cup. This event which has been held for ten times has an interesting history.

This biennial event which was held in rotation initially had the aim to establish an internal intimacy of 3 martial arts student activity units (UKM)  in UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta. These UKM were UKM Merpati Putih, UKM Perisai Diri, and UKM Pro Patria. The Pencak Silat DIY-Central Java Championship established in 1995 to accommodate all of the Pencak Silat colleges in the tertiary level under the leadership of Kamdani Ali, S.T.

Over time, this championship received good responses from various universities in Indonesia. The championship covered Java and Bali until 1999 led by Agung of UKM Perisai Diri.. Finally, the first National Championship proposal in 2002 from IPSI DIY (the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association of Yogyakarta Special Region) was approved by PB IPSI (the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association) to hold a National Pencak Silat National Championship at the College Level.

All technical matters of sponsorship to the technical implementation of participant rules have been prepared by the committee carefully for approximately 8 months by the implementing committee with full support from the UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta. According to Yoga Saputra as the Chair of the Committee, the enthusiasm of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta students as the host in this event was quite high. That was also because the athlete selection process to represent UPNVY was done openly. Yoga is optimistic that the coming National Championship will be better and more successful.
