SLEMAN - Research and innovation results are encouraged in the future to contribute more to economic growth. The development and use of science and technology will be the drivers of the sustainable economic growth. For this reason, the Ministry of Research and Technology / National Agency for Research and Innovation encourages increased effectiveness in the use of science and technology funds and innovation.

It was explained by Mustangimah, the Head of Sub Directorate for Research Capacity Enhancement, Ministry of Research and Technology / National Research and Innovation Agency at the Higher Education Research Policy Socialization event, which was held by LPPM UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY), Tuesday (12/02).

"We encourage universities to conduct research as the research themes contained in the National Research Master Plan (RIRN). So far, there are only a few research results that can be utilized by the wider community. Therefore, the government encourages nine research priority themes for the national research policy 2020-2025. For example, appropriate technology, from low to high technology and it has made a real contribution to the people within 5 years", she explained.

Mustangimah explained that the changes in the ministry's nomeclature also influenced the research system. Previously, the research and community service budget for higher education was managed by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education and it is managed by the Ministry of Research and Technology / National Research and Innovation Agency now. University researchers may involve non-lecturer research partners.

She said that UPNVY needs to encourage the development of regional and national innovation systems that can provide answers to various regional, national and global problems due to the important role of research in higher education.

In accordance with its capacity and based on the national interests, UPNVY can develop centers of excellence by utilizing the existing expertise in various faculties with specific focus as well as the sector-based, commodity, and national strategic issues, involving various scientific disciplines.

"UPN has an advantage in the field of earth science. I heard that it previously has created a mobile rig that can be collaborated with partners and utilized for the national interest", she said.

It is said, the results of the existing research also need to be transformed into innovation by commercializing them in the form of cooperation with industrial partners or local governments in an effort to participate in improving the welfare of the community and building the Indonesian economy.

This socialization activity was attended by around 60 researchers and devotees who were UPNVY lecturers. (wwj / PR
