Sleman - Covid-19 phenomenon that has been going on since late March 2020 creates difficulties for the community, especially in the economic sector, especially small communities. It makes people to be moved to help each other. Therefore, the Student Executive Board of the Social and Political Sciences Faculty of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (BEM FISIP UPNVY) held a fundraising activity in the form of BEM FISIP UPNVY. This activity is cooperation of student organizations under the auspices of FISIP, especially HMJ and DPM FISIP.
FISIP Cares is one of the ongoing work programs of the BEM FISIP student organization of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta which is routinely carried out annually with in conditional time. For this year, the theme of the fundraising activity held by FISIP Cares is "The Covid-19 Conscience Movement with FISIP Student Families."
Novi Saputri, a Business Administration student of 2017, as the Head of the Social Affairs Department of the BEM FISIP UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta explained that the FISIP Cares activities began with online poster distribution conducted by all BEM FISIP members assisted by HMJ members and DPM FISIP and FISIP students. Then, the fundraising activity was continued from April 27 to May 8, 2020. The fundraising that was carried out was open to anyone, not only for the FISIP community of UPN “Veteran Yogyakarta. The funds collected were used to buy food packages containing rice, biscuits, granulated sugar, instant noodles, cooking oil, eggs, etc. They did not forget to also provide mask and bar soap remembering the importance of these two things during this pandemic.
The main targets of this activity included FISIP students who are Bidikmisi recipients, students with UKT 1 & 2 classes, and overseas students. Then, the second target was informal workers affected by covid-19 such as small traders, pedicab drivers, sweepers, tire patchers, and so on in the area around Babarsari.
The distribution of nine-basic-necessities was carried out by 26 participants from several BEM FISIP members, representatives of each HMJ and DPM FISIP, which took place on May 10, 2020 at 10:00 to 14:00 West Indonesian Time in front of Ahmad Yani Building of Campus 2, UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta.
"The food distribution yesterday was carried out on Jalan Babarsari, Jalan Selokan Mataram, Gejayan, Condongcatur Market near campus 1, Jalan Laksda Adisucipto, Timoho, and Blok O," Novi said.
The purpose of these activities, among others, is to ease the burden on students and communities affected by covid-19, especially around the campus area 2 of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta in Babarsari. Judging from the impact caused by the prolonged pandemic and the sluggish social and economic conditions, BEM FISIP through the Social Care FISIP activities invited HMJ, DPM FISIP and all students of FISIP UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta to increase awareness and solidarity between students and the general public affected by covid -19.
Novi also conveyed a message to all friends that this condition reminded and made us be aware in increasing the social sense and helping others. Whatever form of assistance will be very meaningful for anyone in need, it does not have to be material, but assistance can take the form of energy and time spent. "We don't have to help in the form of money," she said.
