SLEMAN – in 2017 UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta is flooded by high schools graduates registering themselves to be new students. The competition is hard/tight because the number of the registered candidates is tens of times greater than the seats available. This year the quota of the seats available at UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta is 2,270. Of this quota, 30 percent is allocated for the Independent Selection candidates/students.
It is recorded that 5,564 high school graduates joined the UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta Independent Section Test, which was held in 5 cities in Indonesia, in Yogyakarta, Jakarta, Balikpapan, Pekanbaru and Banjarmasin. They are competing for the seats available in 5 faculties: Mineral Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Agriculture, Economy and Business and FISIP (Social Sciences (Humanities) and Politics. In Yogyakarta, 5,328 participants took the test in 6 different locations, on UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta Condong Catur Campus and Babarsari Campus, SMAN I (State High School I) of Depok, SMP 4 (State Junior HighSchool 4),Depok, leman, SMK 1 (State Vocational School 1) and MAN 1( Islamic High School 1) of Sleman.
The majority of the Independent Selection Test (SM) participants were taking science and technology (3261 candidates), social sciences and humanities (2142 candidates) and 188 taking the combination of the two earlier mentioned study programs.
Amidst her visit to the test locations on Sunday (9/7/2017), Prof. Dr. Ir. Sari Bahagiarti K. M.Sc, the Rector of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, said that the independent selection was the final filtering conducted by UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta for the regular S1 and D3 programs. Of the total number of participants, 15 took the test for Diploma study program.
Previously UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta had held the student admission selection tests via the National Selection for State University Entrance, shortened as SNMPTN in Indonesian language and the Joint Selection for State University Entrance (SBMPTN) in January and April 2017.
“The entire process of the registration, the making test questions and supervision of the Independent Selection Test was conducted by UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta. “We do hope that the participants will be able to take the test peacefully and securely,” said the Rector.
At UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, the favorite study programs selected by the participants were the Mining Engineering and Information Technology. The two study programs have been the prime study subjects every year.
