Sleman - Petroleum Engineering Students, Faculty of Mineral Technology (FTM) UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY) won the 3rd place in the Action Plan and Energy Challenge 2020 competition organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on August 14, 2020. The team were Maulana Yusuf H (2018), Gilang Dirgantara (2018) and Muhammad Arief P (2018). In the competition, the team raised the project "E-PYMISO (Eco Friendly Pyrolysis Waste by Microhydro and Solar Energy). The project will be implemented in Gajah Wong River area in Yogyakarta.
Maulana Yusuf as the leader of the team stated that this project was motivated by the anxiety of the community around the Gajah Wong River who were confused about the processing plastic waste in the area as well as the condition of fossil fuels in Indonesia which would run out in the next few years so that innovation in the field of renewable energy is needed.
Yusuf, his familiar nickname, added the advantages of this project idea brought by the UPNVY team, namely in general, the pyrolysis process of plastic waste into new fuel using gas and oil energy sources is converted using renewable energy sources, namely the flow of rivers as microhydro and solar panels, so that the results obtained are more maximum.
"We hope that the Gajah Wong River area, which has now become ecotourism along the river, can develop a creative economy sector that attracts tourists in the form of an energy village which will be filled with other forms of renewable energy as well and in the future the Indonesian government will no longer depend on the use of fossil energy and begin to focus on the development of renewable energy in Indonesia, where Indonesia has a very high potential for renewable energy," added Yusuf.
