SLEMAN – The Chencellor of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY), Dr. Mohamad Irhas Effendi opened the online inaugural lecture for New Students for Masters and Doctoral Programs for the academic year of 2020/2021. The public lecture was delivered through the Zoom Clouds Meeting, Monday (28/9/2020)

On this occasion, the Chancellor delivered materials` on the Implementation of Independent Campus Policy, Independent Learning and the Role of Higher Education Research in front of 100 students and lecturers.

"There are eight forms of implementation of the independent learning policy that can be applied, namely learning exchanges, doing apprenticeships, assisting or teaching in certain units, conducting research, humanitarian projects, independent studies or projects and building villages or thematic real work lectures," said the Chancellor.

On this occasion the Chancellor also explained about the National Research Master Plan (RIRN) 2017-2045 which was prepared to align long-term research needs with the direction of national development related to science and technology.

In the inaugural lecture, a Public Lecture was held with the title "Research Paradigm for the Acceleration of Indonesian Development Progress" by Prof. Endang Triwahyu from Gadjah Mada University.

Prof. Endang said that only a few research results can be used currently by the public. Therefore, the government encourages nine research priority themes for the national research policy2020-2025. The research results will be directed to the downstream so that there will be more applied level research and development without leaving basic research.

According to him, the research that is currently being carried out must be innovative, that is, it can solve the problems faced by the Indonesian people.

"There is the creation of new ideas (innovation/novelty) without stopping but it is still within the boundaries of norms and religion. Being sensitive to environmental issues, and of course high originality by not stealing or acknowledging other people's creativity," he explained.

Environmental issues are also a field that is highlighted by the owner of the 17 International Journal Publications. According to him, in the Covid-19 pandemic situation, environmental issues were not paid much attention, one of which was the use of calcium hypochlorite or chlorine.

"The use of disinfected liquid for sterilization is indeed good, but its use should pay attention to the environment. For example, the liquid should not be sprayed if there are people, it must be in public places but not to be inhaled," he said

The results of existing research also need to be transformed into innovation by commercializing in the form of cooperation with industrial partners or local governments in an effort to participate in the welfare of the community and build the Indonesian economy.

On this occasion, it also introduced the UPNVY UPT Library services to support online lectures. The Head of UPT Library of UPNVY, Dr. Nur Ali Amri said that his party has developed an online service through the Lybsys DIGILIB UPN application which can be downloaded via Android and iOS.

Having this application, students can borrow UPNVY's book collections easily and don't have to come to campus. (wwj / public relations)
