YOGYAKARTA, October 2, 2020 - The Student Association of Communication Studies Program Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Yogyakarta holds an annual competition called "Reaction". Reaction is a scientific competition from several concentrations in Communication Science. The reaction this time is not only for students in the DIY and Central Java regions like the reactions in previous years, but this year's reaction has also been able to be followed by students in all regions of Java Island. The competition activities are carried out online from August 22 to October 31, 2020. The competition is carried out through five stages which are the open registration stage which was held on 22 August-29 September, the open submission stage which is on-going from 22 August to 7 October, the 1st judging stage which is on 24 October, the 2nd judging stage which is on 29 October, and the last stage of the session and awarding night which is on October 31st. Reaction 2020 is not only a competition arena, but also aims to convey messages and raise awareness about humanitarian issues for the public.
The Head of Reaction 2020 UPNVY, Cescadeva Naufal, explained "Reaction carries the theme of 'Djalma Manoengsa' this year which is taken from the Javanese language which means human being and with the tagline is 'I see human but not humanity' which raises social and humanity issues that are deviating and rife recently such as issues of racism, sexual harassment, as well as issues of body shaming."
Just like previous years, this third year's Reaction has 4 competition fields, namely advertising, broadcasting, journalism, and public relations and 5 competition branches namely Vision, Siniar, Kinema, Potretwarta, and Prakasita. Vision is an advertising competition branch with poster and infographic output with the theme of "Human Value Cannot Be Seen from the Physical". Siniar is a new competition branch this year in the field of broadcasting with a podcast output themed "Respecting Differences and Learning to Be Empathetic". Kinema is a broadcasting competition branch with audio-visual output in the form of a short film with the theme of "Humans Must Strive for Safety, Welfare, and Balance for Life and the Universe". Portretwarta is a competition which concentrates on journalism with the output of opinion writing accompanied by an infographic on the theme of "Becoming Light in Life". Finally, Prakasita is a branch of public relations competition with the output of creative proposals with the theme of "From Us to Humans".
"I hope that the Reaction 2020 activities will be successful and hopefully the issues we raise from Reaction 2020 convey the message to the public because having the pandemic like this, we must re-conceptualize it, unlike in previous years," Cescadeva concluded when being contacted via the Whatsapp. PR
