Sleman - Geological Engineering Student as the Representative of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta won the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the Annual Scientific Week (PIT) of the Indonesian Geology Student Association (Perhimagi) which was held online on October 25, 2020 with the theme of "Geology in Development and Planning Regions in Indonesia".
Markus Kusnardijanto, as the Public Relations of UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta, said that the 1st place was won by the Bloodstone Team, 2nd place was won by the Pangea UPNYK team, and 3rd place was won by the Pangea team in the National Poster Competition category.
Markus added that the Bloodstone Team who won the 1st place consisted of Dirga Wahyuzar, Hendry Wirandoko, and Muhammad Haidarhandig who are the students of Geological Engineering class 2018 with the title of "What's Up with my Gumuk Pasir now. The Pangea Team won the second place consisting of Anggita Mahyudani Rangkuti, Favian Avila Restiko, and Nur Alif Yusuf who are the Geological Engineering students class of 2017 with the title of "Old Volcanic Geothermal System (OVGS) In Arjosari Subdistrict Pacitan Regency, East Java Province, Indonesia based on Surface and Subsurface Data”. Meanwhile, the Pangea Team who won the 3rd place consisted of Muhammad Nur Jati Setiawan, Devon Sena T., and Abel Amandeus Tios, who are the students of Geological Engineering class 2017 with the title "Study of Slope Geology and Stability in the Construction and Development of Simple Housing : Bukit Pandhawa, Godean, Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region".
Dirga Wahyuzar as the representative of the Bloodstone Team who won the 1st place stated that the selection of the title was based on the condition of the sandbanks in Parangtritis which had suffered a lot of damage to shape and height due to the large number of vegetation and settlements in the surrounding area.
"Based on the literature and research we have conducted, sandbanks can become tsunami barriers if their altitude and shape are still in good condition. We also think that the sandbanks can provide protection for tidal flooding. Based on interviews with the surrounding community, it is known that the area has experienced tidal flooding," said Dirga.
Anggita Mahyudani Rangkuti as the representative of the Pangea Team who won the second place said that based on literature, the East Java region has geothermal potential of around 1024 MW with geothermal manifestations such as hot springs. One of them is the Tirta Husada warm water tourist attraction in the Karangrejo area, Aggosari district, Pacitan. Based on the research conducted, it is known that there is geothermal potential in the area, supported by altered rocks as an indication. In addition, there is a geological structure in the form of a fault with a NW-SE alignment orientation, and there are several types of alteration such as Argilic Alteration, Propile, Advance Argilic, and Silicification (silicis).
Muhammad Nur Jati Setiawan, as the Pangea team who won the 3rd place, explained that slope stripping can have the risk of landslides that endanger housing. By using the Markland 1972approach, 5 slopes have the potential for wedge and sliding density movements. The solution to this problem is by casting and cementing the slope prone points.
"From this study, we can find out the type of landslide, the direction of the landslides and the safety of the slopes. It uses the Markland approach method because our area rock is sandstone in the form of nod which is intruded by igneous rock in the form of diorite. The data from the Markland method that we used are the plane of discontinuity (fracture, fault), the size of the slope, and the internal shear angle obtained from engineering geological tests, explained Muhammad Nur Jati Setiawan via online.
On the other hand, they advised every student to develop themselves further and be brave to compete outside the UPN campus. If they are only on campus for studying, they will not know how to compete and the abilities of other students. Moreover, we need to set targets in everything. For example, in lectures, don't just study, but explore academic and non-academic abilities, such as learning to organize, making research work that is useful for many people, and of course achieving achievements in lectures.
The Western Java Regional Perhimagi PIT which consists of HMTG GEOI Unpak, HMG KALDERA UI, HMG Unpad, HMTG Usakti, HMTG GEA ITB this year is trusted to be the organizer with a competition location centered at Pakuan University. The series of activities consisted of a National Webinar, National Poster Competition, and National Conference. PR
