SLEMAN – This morning (14/8/2017) the lyrics of Mars UPN "Veteran" echoed in Auditorium WR Supratman. The compulsory song of the UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta (UPNVY) academic community was echoed with enthusiasm by the Paradiso Student Choir at the opening of the Senate Open Session in order to receive new students.

The lyrics of country love and devotion to the state reinforce UPNVY's commitment to the State's defensive campus. Now that UPNVY has been authorized since 2014, that commitment is still on the rise.

Rector UPNVY, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sari Bahagiarti K, M.Sc., said that in the era of globalization, challenges for the education world were increasing. In this case, higher education is expected to produce the human capital quality and be able to compete globally.

"For that, UPN Yogyakarta will prepare human capital which is not only a resource, but also it is a human investment that is responsive, tough, and “trengginas” based on discipline spirit, stance, and creativity in facing global competition," said Professor of Faculty of Mineral Technology.

Furthermore, the Rector said that at this moment UPNVY is given the mandate to educate more than 14 thousand students from 26 study programs. Approximately 1,090 of them are Bidikmisi scholarship participants.

At the admission of new students of FY 2017/2018, the number of Bidikmisi scholarship participants is 263 students, which is 145 students from SNMPTN and 118 from SBMPTN.

“All new students of FY 2017/2018 are expected to follow the steps of the Senior Brothers in achieving the local, national, regional, and international levels," said Rector in front of 2342 new students.

The Rector advised the new students to be prepared to follow the learning process well. In addition, she invited the students to join 52 Student Organizations in developing socialization and organizational skills. By joining the organization, the students are expected to improve their soft skill of  mindset, action, and achievement.

"In four years we can meet again in this place for graduation," she said, closing the statement accompanied by the students' applause. (wwj/ humas)
