The University of Pembangunan Nasional (UPN) “Veteran” Yogyakarta postgraduate program was offered after UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta had been operating for 43 years. The opening of the UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta postgraduate program (PPs) was preceded with the seminar/workshop, Postgraduate Program Opening Preparation, on 12-13 December in 1995, which coincided with a series of events for the UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta 37th anniversary. This seminar was opened by Prof. Ir. Yutata Hardiwardaya (the Director of Private Higher Education, Directorate General of Higher Education at the Department of Education and Culture), which was attended by lecturers from ITB, UGM, UNPAD and UNDIP as well as practitioners from a number of national and multinational companies. At that time, it was decided that UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta still needed to raise the quality of lecturers before opening the postgraduate program.
In 1999, a UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta postgraduate program opening preparation team was established that was headed by Prof. Dr. Ir. C. Danisworo, M.Sc.
