Masters Of Economic Science Program :: dipost pada 30 September 2014

The Masters of Economic Science program is a strata-2 (Masters) program at the University of Pembangunan Nasional ”Veteran” Yogyakarta postgraduate course level that offers a M. Sc. degree (Master of Science) to its graduates. In 2004, the Masters of Economic Science was granted official operating permission from the Directorate General of Higher Education Number: 3186/D/T/2004 under the name of Masters of Development Economics (MEP) and has undertaken academic activities and received students since June in 2005. The Masters of Development Economics changed its title to Masters of Economic Science (MIE) based on the Director General of Higher Education Decree No. 163/DIKTI/Kep/2007 dated 29 November 2007. An extension of the operating permission for the program was based on Director General of Higher Education Decree No. 3493/D/T/K-V/2009 dated 29 September 2009. Students enrolled in the Masters of Economic Science program include civil servants, employees in the private sector, self employed, consultants and fresh graduates.

The UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta Masters of Economic Science program is a study program in the field of economics that is expected to be able to encourage the utilization of resources available within a region by equipping students with competencies in practical economics, research skills and communication skills.

 “To prepare graduates to be able to improve the capacity of regional economies and/or able to create self-reliance that is sensitive to change with an emphasis on theory and the actual realities that are faced”

Masters of Economic Science Objectives

  1. To respond to changes and advances in academic knowledge, particularly in regional economies.
  2. To have the ability to solve various economic problems through a scientific outlook.  
  3. To have the skills to make managerial decisions.
  4. To adhere to academic ethics, be disciplined, dedicated and highly creative. 

Curriculum and Graduate Competency

In order to meet the demands and needs of stakeholders as well as the expected competencies of graduates, the curriculum is designed to address the needs of the community and meet the demands of service users. The curriculum is designed to develop the intellectual capacity of students, particularly their capacity in analysis, exploration, knowledge synthesis and the skills to anticipate future changes. The Masters of Economic Science program has three concentrations, namely:

  1. Concentration in Local Development

In this concentration, students gain knowledge, skills and have many discussions on management of local development, for example, developing visions, missions, objectives, development targets, work indicators and strategic plans through to developing work reports. In addition to improving the capacity of local government actors, the outcomes generated can also enable students to become consultants in the field of local development.

  1. Concentration in Local Finance

In this concentration, students gain knowledge, skills and have many discussions on management of local finance, thus enabling them to implement measures to increase local revenue and develop local budgets, local financial accounting, local financial accountability as well as local government balance sheets.  In addition to improving the capacity of local government actors, the outcomes generated can also enable students to become consultants in the field of local finance.

  1. Concentration in Asset Management and Property Valuation

In this concentration, students gain knowledge, skills and have many discussions on local asset valuation so that they have the ability to conduct local asset and property valuations, public and local government asset valuations, investment and finances in property and valuation of enterprises. In addition to improving the capacity of local government actors, the outcomes generated can also enable students to become consultants in the field of local asset valuations.

Improved professionalism in regional economic development is manifested in the increased capacity to think strategically and the ability to develop the best solutions in developing regional economies that are facing global challenges.

The Economic Science program develops an academic climate by fostering a culture of consistent self-learning through the creation of a refreshing and picturesque environment, academic activities and engagement within the academic community that is mutually respectful and conducive.

Teaching Staff

The lecturers that teach in the Masters of Economic Science program are experienced PROFESIONALS and EXPERTS in the fields that they lecture in.

There are 36 teaching staff consisting of 4 professors, 10 doctors and 17 other lecturers who have a masters degree with two of them currently undertaking a PhD. There are another five teaching staff who are practitioners.
