SLEMAN - UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta (UPNVY) accomplished an achievement in the first semester of 2017. The first achievement of this state university is its participation in the SBMPTN in which the average academic grade of the candidate students accepted at UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta ranked 10th in Science and Technology and 8th in the Social Sciences (Humanities) of all state universities in Indonesia. This was stated by UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sari Bahagiarti K, M.Sc., in her speech given during the 4th graduation ceremony of the Academic Year 2017, Saturday (15/7/2017).
“As the Rector, I would like to express my gratitude and highest appreciation for the efforts conducted by the academic personnel and employees of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta in improving and increasing the institutional quality”, said the Rector.
This year UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta has become one of the winners of consortium bequest First Stage conducted by the Directorate General of Science, Technology and Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education. The said consortium bequest is concerned with the Open Mining Method and involving a number of other state universities – Lambung Mangkurat University, Tanjungpura University and Palangkaraya University.
UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta is currently engaged in Expedition 2017 conducting the researches on paleo tsunami (ancient tsunamis) in Middle and East Indonesian Regions, including Bali, Nusa Tenggara and the Maluku Islands (the Moluccas).
“Expedition 2017 is conducted by a multi-discipline team with members from the USA and Indonesia. The Head of the American Team is Prof. Dr. Ron Harris, an expert in dynamic geology from Birgham Young University and the team of researches of UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta is composed of the lecturers and students of the Faculties of Geological Engineering and Mineral Engineering,” added the rector.
The Rector further explained that on June 30th, 2017 UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta’s Faculty of Agriculture was actively engaged and participated in the establishment of Asean Agriculture University Network (AAUN) in Chiang Mai, Thailand. UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta is one of the founders of the establishment of the organization, together with Maejo University. The ceremony of the inauguration and establishment of AAUN was attended by 25 universities from ASEAN countries.
The Communication Science Magister and the Disasters Management Magister study programs have begun to receive students in the even semester of 2016/2017 Academic Year. In the meantime, the Doctorate Geological Engineering study program will only begin to receive students in the odd semester of 2017/2018 Academic Year. On other hand, the Public Relations Study program in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities will begin to receive student in 2018-2019 Academic Year, in line with the issuance of the license for the establishment by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education to UPN “Veteran” Yogyakarta, (wwj/humas).
